HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES $, S Tommy Root, a topnotch rider a few years ago, was an arrival from Texas with the six thoroughbreds he is training for C. W. Pershall. The racers are Judge Leer, Naughty, Charlie Chan, Honorary and Thistle Genie. C. C. Miller, announced that he received word from The Jockey Club registrar of the acceptance of the name Char Witch, which he submitted for the two-year-old filly by Charmarten Polly Witch. J. P. Keezek arrived from Louisville, Ky., with three horses Saturday morning. He is conditioning Weapon for C. Hunt and San-terno and Election Maid for Mrs. J. P. Keezek. M. Walsh brought in Rose Thatcher, Act-dine and Mar nan, which he is training for J. Walsh. The shipment came from Hinsdale, 111., where the thoroughbreds were wintered. Joe Rodriguez, former jockey, was an arrival from New Orleans and will work as a valet during the Hawthorne meeting. Hugh "Red" Gilmore, who does the starting at several tracks, is here for the Hawthorne meeting. He formerly served as one of William Hamiltons assistants. J. P. Ebelhardt, who formerly trained for J. O. Keene and other prominent stables, was an arrival from Louisville, Ky., but is without any horses at present. Jockey Eddie De Camillas, who will do most of the riding for Frank Garrett, trainer of a publir stable, was an arrival from Pimlico, Md.
