T LAT0NIA TURF NOTES s John O. Keene, prominent breeder, who is convalescing from an operation, motored from Lexington for the opening. He reported another fine array of foals at his Keeneland Stud and the loss of one, a son of Jean Valjean Shades of Night, from an undetermined cause a week ago. The youngster lived twelve days. Seven of the Keene horses will race here under W. S. Rust and jockey Melvin Lewis, who is preparing to attempt a comeback, is with the stable. After training and exercising horses for a month, Lewis is down to about 109 pounds. He spent a year at his home in Montrose, Colo.
