OUT BOUND avoided the fast early pace, began working his way into contention gradually, overhauled the leaders in the stretch and drew out through the last sixteenth. WISE KING had speed from the start, disputed the lead with JOHNNY BANE and, despite holding on gamely, was no match for the winner. GIANTESS, under urging all the way, came through on the inside in the stretch and closed with good energy. JOHNNY BANE displayed early speed, drew clear, but was under hustling tactics to stave off repeated bids from WISE KING and had nothing left when the closing test came. DALMATIA was sent .into contention in the early stages and faltered in the drive. PROSY, shuffled back at the start, was never a threat. JOLLY was steadied along back of the early pace, moved up stoutly on the inside approaching the stretch and, benefited when the leaders swung wide, took command and, hard ridden, drew clear. PROSECUTOR had speed from the start, was much used in racing with ANNARITA and was unable to cope with the closing bid of the winner. ANNARITA, alert at the post, fought it out determinedly throughout, but faltered slightly in the closine drive. He should improve off this race. SHANTIME entered into contention in the back stretch and held on gamely to the close, but was unable to thi eaten the leaders under punishment. TEDDY CARL, shuffled back at the start, worked his way up gradually thereafter, but was never a threat. FALLS CITY tired in the drive. BELIEVER worked his way up on the outside rounding the far turn, closed stoutly through the stretch, wore down the leaders and drew out fast through the last eighth. CHESSIE forced the early pace, wore down TOANO to gain a slight advantage, but was unable to cope with the closing bid of the winner. TOANO displayed good early speed, but was unable to keep up in the closing drive. MIDNIGHT FLYER, buffeted about soon after the start, moved up steadily when eaining clear sailing, but was unable to reach the leaders. BYE BYE MARY closed with good energy. LADY HOCKBERGER was in close quarters for much of the running. BLESSED EVENT, away slowly and outrun in the back stretch, unleashed a burst of speed on the inside when reaching the stretch, was running over his field when caught in close quarters and had to take up sharply. SINGING WOOD, away slowly and badly outrun until ncarihg the stretch, worked his way through his field in the last quarter mile and closed going stoutly. RIP VAN WINKLE, forced to lose ground around the first turn, responded gamely to pressure and held on determinedly in the closing test. CRISTATE loomed up threateningly when reaching the stretch and only faltered in the closing strides. JOHNNYCAKE displayed good speed in the pacemaking only to faltered after going three-quarters.
