PHARLOCffS DERBY CHANCES Hopper Candidate for Hot Springs ,000 Feature Saturday Gains Admirers by Good Race. HQT SPRINGS, Ark., April 1. When a "dark horse" is considered for the second running of the Arkansas Derby, Mrs. B. B. Hoppers Pharloch is likely to get the most serious consideration among the outsiders. Racing with much success at Santa Anita last winter, the bay son of Pharamond II. Latch Key, made his initial start of the Oak- lawn meeting in the Swing Show Purse, and but for interference, might have been much closer. Pharloch has not received much consideration to date as a potential winner, but the manner in which he performed in his first outing, makes him a dangerous candidate for the ,000 stake. Jockey Jimmy "Goggles" McCoy, has been engaged to ride the colt Saturday, instead of Willie Ray, who was previously mentioned as his rider for his Derby effort. The only Derby eligible to work this morning was Tetrashera, owned by Chappel Bros., which accomplished a three-quarters trial in 1:21, going the half in :54 and finishing out three-quarters in 1:21, breezing. Prospects for a large turnout for Saturdays running of the Derby was bright this morning. With continued warm weather and brilliant sunshine prevailing, the management anticipates a capacity crowd for the closing days event.
