NEW DEAL VICTORIOUS Continues Araho Stables Success at Narragansett Park Mucho Gusto Stablemate of Winner Second in King Philip Handi ¬ cap Lady Higloss Best PAWTUCKET R I May 8 The success of Walter E OHaras Araho Stable con ¬ tinues at Narragansett Park Today the Araho silks not only won but they were first and second in the mile and onesixteenth King Philip Handicap which featured an unseasonably cold day of racing New Deal won the race coming from behind the pace making Mucho Gusto to earn the decision over his stablemate by a neck The leading pair were well in front of all rivals Mrs Marion Cassidys Bill Farnsworth was third two and onehalf lengths back of the run ¬ nerup Piccolo ridden by Ira Hanford who was on the Derby winner a year ago finished fourth under the eton blue and brown jacket of C V Whitney The race was run in the excellent time of 144 144Mucho Mucho Gusto exhibited so much early speed that it appeared he had a step at the gate New Deal was off the pace behind his stablemate as K Knott went wide with Mucho Gusto on the first turn He led by a length down the back stretch pursued closely by Erin Torch The latter appeared a formidable factor at the far turn but a few yards later began to shorten stride strideFASTCLOSING FASTCLOSING FINISH FINISHHere Here Bill Farnsworth drove up to the leaders and he and Mucho Gusto came into the stretch closely locked As they straight ¬ ened out Eddie Smith moved on the inside with New Deal and at the sixteenth post it was the two Araho representatives fighting for the lead well in advance of the others New Deal came up very fast to earn the verdict but Mucho Gusto might have made things more interesting had Knott been forced to drive him out outThe The winner earned 4670 Despite the cold weather 30000 fans turned out and including the feature which was sixth on the card they had wagered 512645 512645Miss Miss Anita Doris Lady Higloss took up 117 pounds and the worst of the break from her rail station to win the six furlongs New ¬ ton Handicap supporting feature on the card Ridden by Ken Knott the hardhitting mare turned in a gallant race to get the decision over F L Flanders fast charging Blind Pig by a length Dixianas Miss Pru ¬ dence coupled in the betting with Crows Flight finished third two lengths back of the runnerup and a head in advance of Mix well It was a close race down the back stretch with Miss Prudence making the pace and Mixwell and Lady Higloss well up after a quarter Going to the far turn Lady Higloss moved to second place The winner Miss Prudence and Mixwell raced as a team around the turn In the fnal eighth Blind Pig charged up fast to pass both Miss Prudence and Mixwell but Lady Higloss held on gamely to take the lions share of the purse purseROSE ROSE PATH EASILY EASILYT T and L LaPrests Rosepath scored a frontrunning victory in the third race at a mile and a sixteenth The winner went to the lead rounding the turn to the back stretch and drew off after that to score by three lengths over O H Rowes Blessed Event the favorite It was a tight fit for the third award with Adamite getting the decision in a camera finish Flowery Lady was right at his throat latch as they flashed across the line lineFrancis Francis Kenney former Boston newsboy in the stable of California Bill Hartman rode a good race to land Oaktree Stables Moisson home in the threequarters fourth event At the end he was drawing off and was three lengths clear of Sam Workmans Crestoniari Miss Mary Whites Royal Bird was three lengths back of the runnerup and a length in front of the early pacemak ¬ er Speedy Skippy Moisson was rated baqk of Speedy Skippys pace to the far turn where Kenney took him to the lead From that point home he was drawing away Although Napier was shut off half a dozen times E A Reillys Dedication was so much the best in the first at threequarters that he scored by four lengths once he found room to run At the end of the journey he was clear of Mrs M Eckmans High Torque The public backed the first two horses just as they finished Phil Bieber took the third award awardLoloma Loloma owned and trained by Miss Hambla Bauer was made favorite in the six furlongs second and won the heat as a favorite should At the end the Cherry Tree mare was galloping to score by three lengths Mrs J C Richardsons Prince Pom pey was second half a length in advance of W U Ridenours Lanier Just a nose separated the latter and the fourth horse Als Pride The daily double combination was a short one showing 1630 Bierman rode the winner
