HOPE ETERNAL EASILY Consistent Orr Racer Captures Club Arcada Handicap at Aurora AuroraBeats Beats Woodlander by Three Lengths Lengthsfor for Sixth Triumph of Year Transmutable in Form AURORA 111 May 8 With more than 10000 persons in attendance at the Fox Valley Jockey Clubs course this afternoon Mrs S Orrs consistent brown mare Hope Eternal easily accounted for the Club Ar ¬ cada Handicap sixth and feature race on the program for her sixth triumph in eight starts this year It was an easy score for the fiveyearold daughter of Eternal Bal ¬ ance Sheet as she came across the finish line three lengths ahead of B Hernandez Woodlander one of the two sent postward by the New Orleans turfman Another two and a half lengths further back in third place came Mrs G B Scallons Short Skirt SkirtIt It was the first outing for Hope Eternal at the local course and the victory was im ¬ pressive in every way but chiefly the easy manner in which she achieved the success Taking the lead soon after the break jockey L Guymon had his mount under light res ¬ traint and let the challengers try to catch her but their efforts were in vain for when the head of the lane was reached there was little doubt as to which of the contestants would be first across the line lineThe The victory was extremely popular with the large assemblage which had installed Hope Eternal the betting choice at odds of 21 21NO NO MATCH FOR WINNER WINNERShort Short Skirt took up the task of chasing Hope Eternal for seven furlongs of the mile and onesixteenth journey and showed the wear and tear of the struggle readily giving way to the stretch rush of Woodlander But even the strongfinishing Woodlander was no match for the ultimate winner winnerGetalong Getalong winner of the Fox Valley In ¬ augural Handicap on opening day could do no better than finish in fourth place after having encountered blocking as apprentice Paul Ryan attempted to send him through on the rail leaving the back stretch stretchIn In the secondary feature styled the Crab Orchard Handicap fifth on the program and designed for sprinters at a distance of five and a half furlongs Mrs M Rennillos fleet but fainthearted Transmutable was at his best and raced to a three lengths victory over Silverette from the stable of Garrett Watts while C E Davisons Boston Sound landed the show portion of the purse Despite the fact that Transmutable has a reputation of being a notorious quitter the brown son of Transmute Chickie was in ¬ stalled the betting choice over the five others which formed the opposition on the occa ¬ sion As is his custom Transmutable rushed into the lead soon after the field was sent on its way but many expected him to quit when the stretch was reached reachedOn On the contrary Transmutable retained his advantage without being strenuously urged as Silverette was put to a severe drive in an effort to pick up the flying leader but it was a futile effort effortLARGE LARGE CROWD PRESENT PRESENTRacing Racing enthusiasts from Chicago and near ¬ by suburbs literally poured into the Fox Valley Jockey Club plant as the first full week of racing came to a close and under far more pleasant conditions than those which prevailed for the inauguration of the 1937 thoroughbred season in Illinois Though the crowd in attendance did not surpass that of last Saturday it compared favorably with the best that was enjoyed during the 1936 spring session here J Eight races of which two were handicaps and the remaining six claiming events rounded out by far the most attractive of f er ing for turf patrons in this section thus far farIn In addition to bringing out a better cal ¬ iber of thoroughbreds than those which per formerd earlier in the week larger and bet ¬ terbalanced fields competed in the races racesWith With a warm sun beaming down the weather was ideal and the racing strip was termed slow for the beginning of the days racing which is the best condition that it has been in since the start and gave indica ¬ tion of showing further improvement There were some sof t spots but these did not prove a hazard for the contesting thoroughbreds thoroughbredsSIR SIR BOSTON AGAIN AGAINAn An even half dozen distance platers en ¬ gaged in the initial race of the day and Frank Bartons brown colt Sir Boston made it two straight victories by romping down to the finish line five lengths in advance of Wild Count in the mile and seventy yards affair Grandmas Boy landed in third place after having been well up for the greater portion of the journey Jockey Buddy Guymon who had the mount on Sir Boston displayed fine judgment when he took his charge off the pace entering the back stretch and permitted Wild Count to take the lead to the three furlongs post At this point the Bostonian offspring swiftly forged to the front and added to his advantage as the race progressedi progressediMaking Making her first appearance of the year under colors R E Gowins sixyearold bay mare Poppinalong showed the way to eight others throughout the five and onehalf fur ¬ longs second race The sprinter took the measure of Rapid Bells by three lengths while Chantesuta accounted for the short end of the purse Displaying a good flash of speed from the start Poppinalong proved capable of outrunning her rivals down the back stretch though Rapid Bells gave a merry chase for the opening threeeighths of the journey However it was apparent when the stretch was reached that the pace ¬ maker would not be headed off and backers received 20 for 2 straight tickets ticketsLONG LONG PRICED WINNER WINNERThe The longestpriced winner of the meeting bobbed up in the third race and conse ¬ quently it resulted in the biggest Daily Double payoff of the year as H D Kings Beryl King a sixyearold maiden defeated 6 o ao co o oacTveococ r o avvc ocofc t a 3X I eight rivals to graduate and returned 13440 for 2 wagers while the Double was re ¬ munerative to the extent of 93760 to the lucky holders of the combination
