DIXIE TO CALUMET DICK Registers Fourth Straight Success in Pimlico Feature Turns in Fast Time to Defeat Finance Financeand and Aneroid Bough Time TimeEasily Easily Best in Fifth PIMLICO Md May 8 Calumet Dick racing for E K Bryson retained his un ¬ broken record in Maryland this spring when he was a driving winner of the Dixie Hand ¬ icap at Pimlico this afternoon Coming from behind the pace of the favorite Mrs Emil Denemarks Finance Calumet Dick was driven lo the front at the sixteenth pole and finished slightly more than a length before Finance at the end while Aneroid was third only a nose away The winner of the Bowie Handicap and the Southern Maryland Handicap was fortunate to receive the ver ¬ dict for a claim of foul was lodged against him by Rosengarten who rode Aneroid AneroidBy By his victory in the Dixie Calumet Dick earned 9450 for his owner and boosted his winnings for the year to 18190 He was ridden by jockey Joe Wagner Calumet Dick negotiated the distance in 158 which is only twofifths slower than the track record which is held jointly by Gallant Knight and Dark Hope The latter established his time mark in winning the Dixie in 1936 and fin ¬ ished fifth in todays running runningThe The start was a good one and it wasnt long before Finance displayed his usual speed to take a short lead in the run for the first turn entering the back stretch he was running clear of Count Arthur which was lapped on Aneroid The latter soon dis ¬ placed Count Arthur in second position while the Hertz colorbearer continued to race before the eventual winner winnerDISLODGES DISLODGES COUNT ARTHUR ARTHUROn On the far turn there was a general bunch ¬ ing of the field and Calumet Dick circled the leaders to dislodge Count Arthur and move into closer contention Entering the stretch Aneroid drove up on the outside to be on even terms with Finance and at the same time Calumet Dick charged up on the outside of the leading pair Calumet Dick was traveling fastest of the trio and when in front he crossed over sharply impeding Aneroid AneroidContinuing Continuing his drive Calumet Dick drew out to score by slightly more than a length while Aneroid recovering gamely was on almost equaf terms with Finance at the end Count Arthur was fourth one and onehalf lengths away and before Dark Hope which never entered serious contention Two Bob coupled with Finance was sixth Showers which fell throughout the morning and part of the afternoon dulled the track a little but did not deter a good crowd from turning out After the third race the skies cleared considerably and workmen on the track were busy bringing the track to good condition for the Dixie DixieROUGH ROUGH TIMES DEBUT DEBUTRough Rough Time under the silks of J Yancey Christmas making his first start of the year was a frontrunning victor in the Rose Hill Manor Purse an allowance race at six fur ¬ longs for threeyearolds and second best offering on the program Dominating the running from the start the son of Grand Time turned back repeated challenges from Honey Cloud and drew away in the stretch to establish an advantage of two and one half lengths as the finish was reached Honey Cloud racing for E K Bryson was able to retain the place award under a drive as his head was before Mrs Emil Denemarks fast closing Prairie Dog The winner raced the six furlongs in 113 over a track that lacked a little of being fast and was ridden by jockey OMalleyHustled Joe OMalley Hustled away from the barrier Rough Time and Honey Cloud fought for the lead with the former drawing clear as the half mile post was reached where he was placed under restraint Honey Cloud unable to match the speed of Rough Time also was taken in hand as he raced before Carnarvon which moved up stoutly on the outside as the far turn was reached but which soon tired Entering the stretch Honey Cloud was again put to pressure to reach the leader but Rough Time drew away without great effort to win with much in reserve Prairie Dog which had been slow to find his speed fourid racing room on the inside entering the stretch and finished stoutly to threaten Honey Cloud for the place award ClingehdaaVaway slowly made up some ground on the outside on the turn but did not seriously threaten the leaders a Fyan racing for C F Hockley annexed her first brackets when she was an easy winner over the limit band of platers that opposed her in the opening race Leading throughout Fyan saved ground on the turns and needed only mild shaking up to dis ¬ pose of the feeble bid of Mandas Baby entering the stretch Mandas Baby raced closest to the winner at all times and was put to pressure on the turn in an effort to reach Fyan
