MORE THAN 80000 PEOPLE SAW 1937 KENTUCKY DERBY LOUISVILLE Ky May 11 More than 80000 people possibly 10000 more than that number saw the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs here Saturday according to figures and estimates released today by Col Matt J Winn president of the track trackThe The actual number recorded at the track turnstiles was in excess of 70000 close to 40000 crowding into the general enclosure as the others streamed through clubhouse entrances In addition to those who passed through the turnstiles 10000 to 12000 saw the race from the track center field while perhaps as many more looked on from house tops stable roofs and other points It was the largest crowd in the history of racing in this country
