THIRD VICTORY AT PIMLICO Weston Beaten Only Once in Four Starts During Meeting Sun Flags Offspring Partial to Footing at Famous Baltimore Course Wag ¬ ner Astride Winner BALTIMORE Md May 11 Weston sporting the white and green silks of A C Compton scored his third triumph in four starts at the present Pimlico meeting this afternoon in the featured Whetstone Point Purse over the six furlongs distance Under top weight of 116 pounds and ridden by Joe i Wagner the fiveyearold son of Sun Flag I and Madcap Princess ran the distance in 112 to defeat William Elders Royal Rank by four lengths as Mrs Emil Denemarks Sir Quest was another four lengths back in third place The favored Savage was fourth among the seven good sprinters composing the field fieldClear Clear and warmer weather prevailed and the attendance showed a marked increase while the course was in excellent condition conditionSavage Savage had but little chance when he was caught unprepared at the start and his op ¬ ponents were well under way before L Knapp had him in stride The A G Van derbilt gelding was rated along well while saving ground arid came with a rush but he could not menace the leaders leadersGAINS GAINS WITH A RUSH RUSHRoyal Royal Rank was hustled to the front with Sir Quest at his heels and Bill Donoghue and Polar Flight right behind the Denemark racer while Wagner had Weston under steady restraint As the field made the turn put of the back stretch Weston began mov ¬ ing up on the outside and gaining with a rush he was at Royal Ranks heels as the field came into the stretch stretchContinuing Continuing his advance Weston reached the front with a sixteenth to go and drew away steadily as Wagner kept after him with relentless hand riding Royal Rank had no trouble saving second honors as Sir Quest tired while Savage finished at the latters heels and before Bill Donoghue and Polar Flight which had tired and Biologist which showed but little speed speedJay Jay McNamaras Wandrel the favorite came from well back with a rush through the final five furlongs to capture the open ¬ ing event which brought out seven Mary ¬ landbred platers to go a mile and onesix ¬ teenth Ridden by Bobby Merritt the aged daughter of The Wanderer and Eleusinia was in fifth position until midway of the back stretch where she began her move on the outside Gaining steadily she overtook Bally Bay and Queen Govans entering the stretch to beat them out in the drive de f eating Bally Bay by a half length as the other was a similar margin away awayMASKED MASKED KNIGHT EASILY EASILYAnother Another favorite scored when G H Bost wicks Masked Knight making his first start of the year easily defeated five other plater jumpers in the steeplechase Under the handling of B Ansteatt and carrying 144 pounds the veteran gelding by Pompey Masked Dancer took the lead at the start and held it all the way over the twomile course F S Greenes Drill Master chal ¬ lenged him at the far turn but Masked Knight drew away to have an advantage of four lengths lengthsDrill Drill Master which swerved several times almost knocking Quick Verdict into the in ¬ ner rail of the water jump had no trouble taking secondary honors by six lengths over Axacan owned by J H C Forbes Quick Verdict was fourth while Pontoon and Roll ¬ ing Steel which never threatened completed the field fieldEmvee Emvee racing for Claude Feltner had no trouble defeating the seven lowly platers op ¬ posing him in the third race over six fur ¬ longs Moving up fast on the outside leaving the back stretch the fouryearold Vito Mary V gelding got to the front turning for home when Prince Turley the favorite tired and drew away to be under strong restraint from L Machado at the end Bromide also showed late speed to be sec ¬ ond six lengths back of the winner and a half length before Heartease which like ¬ wise came from behind Canrock which finished fourth encountered trouble in the running as did Tzigane Prince Turley pulled up lame lameFour Four fair twoyearold fillies met at four and onehalf furlongs in the fourth event with Yomer owned by J P Jones and an oddson favorite winning by a length arid a half to give jockey Bobby Merfitt a double The Manhasset Stables Last Lay was second two lengths before W F Hitts Happy Vote as Fancy That was another threequarters of a length away
