Hard HardHeld Held in 1 57 Other Workouts BALTIMORE Md May 12 War Admiral became more of a pro ¬ nounced favorite for Saturdays renewal of the Preakness this morning after he had breezed a mile and one furlong in 156 as his final im ¬ portant training test for the 50000 added fixture over the mile and three sixteenths distance His trial one of five by leading Preakness candi ¬ dates this morning was the most impressive because of the easy fashion in which the Kentucky Derby winner went about his task Other Preak ness candidates going over the mile and one furlong route were Pompoon which finished second to the Glen Riddle star in the Derby and Julia M Lofts Mosawtre Pompoon was hard held in going the distance in 157 but Mosawtre was driving as he fin ¬ ished out in 155 Asked to ex ¬ tend their speed over the mile and a quarter course were Walter M Jef ¬ fords Matey and Merry Maker the hope of Mrs E G Rand and Willie Shea which disappointed in the Derby Matey worked in 210 breezing and Merry Maker was running in handy fashion to be timed in 209 209UNDER UNDER STOUT RESTRAINT RESTRAINTWar War Admiral was the first of the quintet out on the track trainer George Conway giving the rider explicit instructions to keep the son of Man o War and Brushup under stout restraint Breaking at the fur ¬ long pole the Glen Riddle colt went the first quarter in 25 half mile in 50 threequarters in 116 and the mile in 142 By quarters his time was 25 25 25 26 and the final eighth in 14 Pompoons 14Pompoons rider had his feet pressed hard against the stirrups in his attempt to rate the son of Pompey and Oonagh which be ¬ ginning at the furlong post went the first quarter in 26 half in 52 threequarters in 117 and the mile in 144 His time by fractions was 26 26 25 27 and 13 for
