DENEMARK COLORS TRIUMPH Higher Oloud Runs Three Quarters in 112 at Pimlico Kurtsinger Astride ChicagoOwned Horse In InEdgar Edgar Allen Foe Handicap Cool CoolWeather Weather Prevails BALTIMORE Md May 12 Running the six furlongs in 112 Higher Cloud carried the yellow and blue silks of Mrs Emil Dene mark to a hard earned victory in the Edgar Allen Poe Purse which featured this after ¬ noons Pimlico program Under 111 pounds including Charles Kurtsinger the fouryear old gelding by High Cloud Miss Toney won by threequarters of a length over the Bo mar Stables Billy Bee as Sunned property of Mrs B F Christmas was beaten a head for the place while Postage Due was a simi ¬ lar distance back in fourth place Bright and Early and Aroused completed the field in which Higher Cloud was a slight favorite favoriteOne One of the best weekday crowds of the meeting was in attendance as partly cloudy and slightly colder weather prevailed prevailedPostage Postage Due set a good pace in the feature with Higher Cloud right with him during the opening quarter but being eased back on the turn When called upon entering the stretch the Denemark gelding moved for ¬ ward steadily to take the lead at the six ¬ teenth post drawing away slowly thereafter thereafterPostage Postage Due tired after losing command and Billy Bee came up fast on the inside to take secondary honors as Sunned finished with a rush on the extreme outside to be third Bright and Early was a factor to the stretch and then tired while Aroused was never able to make trouble troubleEIGHTH EIGHTH CONSECUTIVE VICTORY VICTORYAlfred Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts silks were borne to their first victory of the week when Leap captured the C division of the graded handicap by threefourths of a length over Mrs A J Abels Top Dog as A C Comptons Church Call was three lengths away in third place Rowes Crump a slight favorite over Top Dog and the winner which was coupled with Bright Mark was fourth after trailing the others to the stretch Carrying 119 pounds and ridden by Sam Renick the bay son of Supremus and Mad Step was rated along smoothly until leaving the back stretch where he advanced steadily to overtake Top Dog inside the final furlong the latter tiring in the drive driveCredence Credence had to be much the best to ac ¬ count for the opening dash of four and one half furlongs as the Mrs Louise Viau juve ¬ nile encountered early trouble and then had to do his racing on the outside rounding the turn However he had the necessary speed and Bobby Merritt brought him up rapidly in the stretch to defeat Prince Mowlee owned by J E Simmons by a length The latter displayed a fast early pace from a quick getaway but he was tiring at the end and gained the place by a half length over Time and Again as Jolly Jack was a similar margin away in fourth place placeA A G VANDEBBBLT SILKS SILKSWilliam William Jones amateur rider and son of trainer J P Jones scored his eighth con ¬ secutive victory this season in piloting Little Marty which his father trains for Gary Black local sportsman to an easy victory in the steeplechase The aged gelding by Lucky Hour Elizabeth D won by a dozen lengths over H R Bains Caniento as Mrs John Bpsleys Wilfrid G was another ten lengths back and well before Kepi and Gold Sweeper Bad Bob the only other starter broke his leg when he fell at the tenth fence and had to be destroyed destroyedA A dozen of the cheapest sort of threeyear olds met over six furlongs in the third race with Sirgay owned by F M Alger Jr rushing up fast on the outside after being in the middle of the bunch in the early run ¬ ning to gain the verdict by a neck over Potiphar as Deepwick was a head away in third place Happy Hostess landed in fourth place Off and On was a slight favorite with Sirgay a gelding by the Sirdar II Dust away the second choice Happy Hostess led which showed the way until overtaken by Potiphar and then by the winner Merritt was on Sirgay giving him a double
