EXPECT 20 NOMINATIONS Indications Point to Crack Field for 12000 Illinois Derby Milky Way Stable Names Reaping I Reward and Three Others Im ¬ ported Horse Among Entries AURORA 111 May 12 Indications point to more than twenty nominations for the 12000 added Illinois Derby which closes at midnight Saturday according to Richard A Leigh Fox Valley Jockey Club racing secre ¬ tary who predicts that the most represen ¬ tative field of threeyearolds in the history of the stake will be available for the mile and a furlong test on May 22 This years renewal of the Illinois Derby is the sixth in the history of the Aurora plant having its inception in 1923 when In Me moriam defeated General Thatcher and Prince K However for the ten years im ¬ mediately following the race was wiped off the spring racing schedule at Aurora and was revived in 1933 It has been staged in consecutive years since that time and has increased in value and popularity with Ill ¬ inois turf enthusiasts enthusiastsDuring During the past two days nominations for the sixth running of the event have been coming in steadily and includes some of the topnotch threeyearolds of the country Mrs Ethel V Mars Milky Way Farm is the most strongly represented thus far trainer Bob McGarvey having announced the can ¬ didacy of four of the Chicago sportswomans racers racersPROMINENT PROMINENT QUARTET QUARTETMost Most prominent of the quartet named by the Milky Way Farm is Reaping Reward which finished third in the sixtythird run ¬ ning of the Kentucky Derby last Saturday The other Milky Way performers made eligible for the first major stake of the Illi ¬ nois racing season are Murph Military and Case Ace At least two of the foregoing are contemplated as starters in the Derby here a week from next Saturday but McGarvey has not yet made his selections for the race Wednesday raceWednesday mornings mail brought the nomination of Raoul Walshs Sunset Trail II the only imported thoroughbred to com ¬ pete in the last Kentucky Derby The racer which is trained by George Walsh screen star of the silent cinema era is at present at Churchill Downs and is regarded as a certainty to be shipped to the Fox Valley track for the richly endowed stake Continued on thirtieth page EXPECT 20 NOMINATIONS Continued from first page Still another nomination today was that f Bernard F the property of I J Collins wealthy breeder and sportsman of Cleve ¬ land Ohio Trainer Al Miller forwarded a letter to secretary Leigh along with the nomination of the colt stating that he ex ¬ pected to send his charge to Aurora to make a bid for the prize prizeIn In addition to the above mentioned three yearolds the following have been made eligible to date Grey Count and Dead Calm which finished onetwo in the running of the Louisiana Derby this spring Sir Midas Which was third in the Arkansas Derby Winged Victory and Skeeter SkeeterRobert Robert S Eddy Jr president of the Fox Valley Jockey Club has contacted every Qwner and trainer who participated in the Kentucky Derby by mail and telegram and Js confident that the messages will result in the nomination of some of the most promin ¬ ent threeyearolds that engaged in the Blue Srass feature last week
