FINALE AT LOUISVILLE Historic Churchill Downs Winds Up Another Derby Meeting MeetingDark Dark Seeker in Another Triumph Lillian Roth Easily Live i One in Fast Time LOUISVILLE Kyf May 22 Churchill Downs famous home of the Kentucky Der ¬ by Americas outstanding turf fixture re ¬ newed two weeks ago and won by War Ad ¬ miral today brought to a close one of the most successful meetings in its history when the curtain fell on nineteen days of brilliant and important spring racing racingFor For the final day the weather blustery with a threat of rainj was not all that could have been desired and no stake event was included in the program offered but the same fine and lively interest evident from the start prevailed undiminished to the end endIn In addition to the prized Kentucky Derby other stakes renewed were the Clark Handi ¬ cap won by Count Morse the Bashford Manor Stakes captured by Sky Larking and the Kentucky Oaks as old as the Kentucky Derby which found its sixtythird winner in Mars Shield ShieldIn In both attendance and betting the meet ¬ ing ran well above last year figures not in ¬ cluding those for the closing day denoting an increase of about twenty per cent in patronage and a corresponding rise in spec ¬ ulation ulationDERBY DERBY ATTENDANCE RECORD RECORDPresident President Matt J Winn in reviewing the I meeting said Taken altogether our spring meeting has been one of the most interest ¬ ing and one of the most successful in the long history of Churchill Downs The Ken ¬ tucky Derby set an alltime record for at ¬ tendance not less than 80000 people being present within the grounds This interest on the part of the racing fans has continued every day which convinces me that im i proved business conditions will continue and that every form of sport and industry will show a greater profit this year yearI I have long since learned that you can ¬ not mark time in handling a great turf en ¬ terprise like the Kentucky Derby and so we are already planning for next year My Continued on seventeenth page FINALE AT LOUISVILLE Continued from first page purpose has always been to take good care of what might be termed the forgotten man that is those who are unable to secure seats or boxes and purchase admission tickets with perhaps 25000 of them not be ¬ ing able to get a glimpse of the race Our plans are already complete for the building of a tunnel to the center field where those holding general admission tickets can be properly taken care of ofIn In addition to this terraces will be ex ¬ tended from the end of the grandstand up to the start of the Derby A pavilion will be erected where the old dining room building now stands The vast crowd will have shel ¬ ter there in case of rain and they can secure mutuel tickets if they desire
