first time in history an Illinois owner furnished the winner of the 12000 added Illinois Derby worth 9590 to the victor which was Case Ace from the Milky Way Farm stable of Mrs Ethel V Mars The bay son of Teddy Sweetheart showed the way to his nine rivals from beginning to end of the mile and a furlong distance and reached the fin ¬ ish a neck in front of E E Fogelsons Grey Count while the Three Ds Stock Farms Heelfly landed in third place placeAn An overflow gathering of racing fans swarmed into the Fox Valley Jockey Clubs track for the finish of the first Illinois race meeting and were provided with an excellent brand of racing which resulted in close and thrilling finishes on many occasions and particularly the running of the Derby DerbyCase Case Ace carrying 126 pounds which was the top weight in the field of ten starters acted f ractiously at the starting gate and starter John Morrissey placed the son of Teddy on the outside outsideAs As Case Ace delayed the start Heelfly be ¬ gan acting up and was also placed on the outside making it two of the ten partici ¬ pants breaking from outside the stall com ¬ partments After a delay of nine minutes at the barrier Case Ace and Heelfly quieted down sufficiently to get away to a good start and the colorbearer of Mrs Ethel V Mars was the first to show in front frontGREY GREY COUNT THREATENS THREATENSThe The first quarter of the journey was com pleted with Case Ace showing the way to Play Pal while Grey Count raced in third position When the field straightened out on the back stretch Grey Count moved up in a threatening manner and issued a challenge to the leader leaderThe The Louisiana Derby winner under the expert guidance of Charley Corbett was forced to go to the outside to challenge the leader and consequently lost some ground which apparently was the deciding margin of the race raceThe The Milky Way entry of Case Ace and Military ruled favorite in the betting and backers of the entry took down slightly bet ¬ ter than even money for their investment Jockey Alfred Robertson first string rider for the Milky Way Stable had the mount on Case Ace and performed in superb manner to gain the decision decisionCase Case Ace was under a terrific drive for the major portion of the mile and a furlong journey and in view of the fact that it was the first time that the son of Teddy has been sent more speed from the start Unassisted showed the way to his nine rivals from start to finish of the opening race on the program a four and a half fur ¬ longs dash for twoyearolds Chatter Wrack finished second and Burr Hickman was a tiring third Jockey Joe Dyer had the mount on the winner and Unassisted broke swiftly and before the field had travelled a sixteenth of a mile the speedy son of last by the stewards for coming over too sharply on his rivals approaching the three furlongs post A recommendation of fifteen days suspension for an aggravated case of rough riding has been made to the Illinois Racing Commission In the official placing Poppin along was second and Ana X was given third position in a close finish with Irish Wake WakeThe The first real outsider of the day scored in the fourth event when R Emerys Mar ¬ garet G came with a magnificent rush in the last quarter to defeat Ep by two lengths Heart Break was third a half length behind the W F Black colorbearer and Funder burg which closed with belated speed was fourth The six furlongs dash was run in 112 and Epernay set out to make the pace and lasted until just beyond the halfway mark where Ep took command and went into the stretch with a four lengths advan ¬ tage It was here that Margaret G started her run on the outside that resulted in her victory and she rewarded her followers with a 4780 mutuel for each 2 2TRANSMUTABLE TRANSMUTABLE SURPRISES SURPRISESEight Eight sprinters met in the Au Revoir Handicap and it resulted in a mild surprise when Mrs M Rennillos Transmutable made every post a winning one and finished the six furlongs sprint four lengths in advance of Leading Article which had followed the pacemaker throughout Getalong was third a head behind Leading Article and a half a length in front of The Jurist which gave way after following the pacemakers to the half mile mileMarcabala Marcabala coupled with Biography was responsible for a seven minute delay at the starting gate and was finally placed on the outside and after the start failed to be a factor at any stage
