WHITNEY LOSES FLYING CROSS Belmont Stakes Eligible Falls in inBelmont Belmont Park Workout and andBursts Bursts Blood Vessel NEW YORK N Y May 22 Flying Cross a bay colt by Pennant Blessings died at Belmont Park this morning while at exercise over the main track The colt was ridden by J Wagner who suffered a dislocated shoulder when his mount fell Flying Cross was sent to the starting barrier in company with the twoyearold The Chief and the instructions to jockey Wagner were to break and go a quarter mile as a pipe opener for his engagement in the Withers for the afternoon The three yearold and the twoyearold left on even terms and had run a furlong when he stumbled and fell forward Wagner fell under him but wiggled himself free freeFlying Flying Cross was dead when examined and death was attributed to a bursted blood vessel It was the second accident of that type in less than a week Yes Siree a two yearold owned by the Starmount Stable died while at exercise earlier earlierFlying Flying Cross was looked upon by the C V Whitney stable as the main hope for the Belmont and other stakes for threeyear olds to be decided later in the year
