OutWhile While Leading in Juvenile Race HOMEWOOD 111 May 29 While the solons of that state were pondering the fate of racing in Texas one of its leading thoroughbred es ¬ tablishments the Valdina Farms of Edward F Woodward multimillionaire Houston sportsman and business man was adding prestige to the Lone Star commonwealth by playing a dominating role in todays program at Washington Park Valdina Farms provided the winner of both of the week ¬ end features for after Lassator accounted for the Prairie State Stakes for juveniles that establishments Sir Emerson sprinted to victory in the Chicago Handicap Sharing the limelight with Valdina was its trainer J J Flanigan who saddled both winners and jockey Leon Haas who rode them both and also two other winners during the afternoon Sir Emerson held at almost 19 to 1 in I the mutuels took the lead from fromIsaiah Isaiah after about three furlongs and then stayed in front to the end to score by a length and a quarter to add 3210 to the coffers of his owner Hastinola was second War Glory third and Dogaway fourth while the strong choice Preeminent recent win ¬ ner of the Toboggan Handicap at Belmont Park was sixth in the field of nine Pre ¬ eminent carried top weight of 120 pounds while the winner which ran the distance in 111 shouldered 112 pounds poundsTHREATEN THREATEN WINNER WINNEROnce Once in front Sir Emersons superiority was never seriously challenged until he got inside the final eighth where Hastinola War Glory and Dogaway loomed up as formidable threats threatsThe The Valdina racer although ridden out still had enough left to meet these chal ¬ lenges and to receive the applause of the 15000 or more who witnessed the program Hastinola beat War Glory a little less than a length for second place while the latter was only a nose in front of Dogaway at the end endPreeminent Preeminent close up from the beginning made a threatening gesture after entering the stretch and got into second position an eighth out but then gave way under his weight weightUNUSUAL UNUSUAL INCIDENTS INCIDENTSIn In a race replete with unusual incidents the Valdina Farms Lassator captured the third renewal of the Prairie State Stakes a 2000 added dash of five and a half furlongs for twoyearolds The first incident to mark the contest came on the turn when the Milky Way Farms Tiger oddson choice of the spectators ran out suddenly while in the lead and the second occurred in the last fur ¬ long when Lassator bore over sharply on his own stablemate Roy T possibly knock ¬ ing the latter out of second money which then Charm and Pelter PelterLassator Lassator had little to do to go to the front when Tiger bolted to the outside The Valdina racer then remained in front to the end Roy T was practically on even terms with the winner a short dis ¬ tance inside the final eighth when Lassator bore over and forced Roy Ts rider Charley Corbett to take back Jane Vito meanwhile was coming gamely on the outside in a good castoff now racing under the colors of Roscoe Goose achieved an easy and popular victory in the six furlongs openings event which engaged twelve under cheaper claiming con ¬ ditions Bow to Be making only his sec ¬ ond start of the year and his sixth in two years took the lead on the outside on the turn quickly opened a commanding margin and won by four lengths He was ridden by Leon Haas Second money fell to Me taurus as Eddies Brother accounted for third honors honorsHaas Haas came right back to ride the winner of the second race a dash of five furlongs for twoyearolds in which the Woolford Farms Lawrin showing considerable im ¬ provement over his previous starts scored in 5975 just a fifth of a second off the track record Aces Wild was second and the public choice Drift Along third
