UPPERMOST CORONATION CUP Hatch Racers Stablemate Ariel ArielCross Cross Third in Woodbine Parks ParksClosing Closing Day Feature TORONTO Ont May 29 Uppermost fiveyearold daughter of Cohort and Sum ¬ mit racing in the silks of H C Hatch sur ¬ vived a gruelling stretch drive to win the 5000 added King George VI Coronation Cup Handicap which featured the closing days program at Woodbine Turning back repeated challenges from Mrs T Stevensons Tempestuous she drew away in the final sev ¬ enty yards holding a lead of slightly more than a length at the end endTempestuous Tempestuous unequal to the task of con ¬ ceding eight pounds was an easy second two and onehalf lengths before Ariel Cross stablemate of the winner Dr C N Mooneys Teddy Haslam winner of the King Edward Gold Cup earlier in the week was in fourth place tiring at the end after making a bid at the furlong pole poleStarter Starter Rowe had the field off to a perfect start after a brief delay caused by the i fractious antics of Uppermost which was started from the outside There was a gen ¬ eral closing up on the upper turn Ariel Cross swinging to the outside to enter con ¬ tention Uppermost and Tempestuous how ¬ ever were quite equal to the challenges and drew away from the field continuing head and head They raced as a team through the j stretch until right at the sixteenth post where the Hatch mare finishing gamely un ¬ der Youngs hard drive drew away Tem ¬ pestuous readily held to second place and Ariel Cross closing strongly easily disposed of the others othersThe The winners share of the purse was 4220 and Ariel Cross by being third added an ¬ other 500 to the Hatch coffers
