ARAHO STABLE LUCK BREAKS BREAKSBlackbirder Blackbirder Defeats New Deal in 5000 Puritan Handicap ThirtyOne Thousand Spectators See OHara OHaraColor Color Bearer Beaten Bierman BiermanScores Scores Suffolk Double BOSTON Mass May 29 The luck of Mrs Walter OHaras Araho Stable which had won the first five major stakes of the New England season broke today as New Deal could finish no better than second in the 5000 added Puritan Handicap that fea ¬ tured the weekend program at Suffolk 1 Downs At the end of the journey F L Flanders Blackbirder was two and a half lengths clear of the Araho racer after run ¬ ning a great race from start to finish The first and second horses were almost equal choices in the betting bettingT T P Morgans Gallaclay well placed all the way finished third in the field of eight that started after the withdrawal of Mucho Gusto stablemate of New Deal and Up and Up Mucho Gusto will be reserved for the Decoration Day Handicap on Monday as was generally anticipated Don Guzman ran a surprisingly good race to take the fourth award awardChancing Chancing went out to set the pace with Don Guzman after him Gallaclay Avas third as they turned into the back stretch Black ¬ birder was in the ruck but had plenty of room and was under restraint Down the back stretch Chancing still showed the way Approaching the far turn he began to tire and both Blackbirder and New Deal moved up Gallaclay was shuffled back in the run around the final turn but ducked to the in ¬ side and was clear coming into the stretch stretchBlackbirder Blackbirder had the lead midway on the turn and drew away as they entered the stretch In the stretch it was a twohorse race with Blackbirder well in the lead and running freely and New Deal sweeping up fast in an effort to pass him himHe He could never get to the leader however New Deal incidentally did not have the best of racing luck suffering interference from Trouper TrouperDon Don Guzman was outmatched but ran a fine race He set the pace and was tiring at the end but managed to land fourth fourthCarl Carl Bierman who put up his usual in ¬ telligent and vigorous ride was astride the winner The race marked a double for him himThe The track good early had dried out to fast by the time of the feature The race was run in 145 145The The largest crowd of the season was on hand The turnstile count showing 31000 31000Paragon Paragon Stables Bold Turk and Manhas sett Stables Smoke Signal were made equal favorites in the Kenmore Purse a five fur ¬ longs event for juveniles that served as the supporting attraction on the card They f in ished as named but Bold Turk proved much superior to his rival leading him by a length at the end The margin could have been Imuch greater had Jimmy Lynch seen fit to drive his mount out needlessly in the final stages At the end of the journey R W Col jlins Miss Leon was third four lengths back of the runnerup Enac finished fourth
