CHANCE FOR STAKE VICTORY Oddesa Beulah. Certain Starter in Lafayette Stakes at Keeneland Today Opposes Entries. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 26 The first renewal of the Lafayette Stakes, which will top Keenelands program tomorrow, will afford the unbeaten Oddesa Beulah her first opportunity for a stakes victory. Winner of her six starts, two of which were at Miami, three at Oaklawn Park, and one here, Oddesa Beulah will carry the top. burden of 119 pounds for the run over the Headley Course of forty feet less than a half mile. Only four others will oppose her and they are divided among two entries. Mrs. Helen Hay Whitneys Greentree Stable colors will be carried by Cherry Jam coupled with Express, of the Manhasset Stable, and Dixiana, will be represented by Likly Lad and Batter. In her first start, here the daughter of Wise Counsellor, which races under James B. Jones Oddesa Farms silks, trimmed "Cherry Jam and Likly Lad and ran the distance in track record time of :46, clipping one-fifth of a second from the track mark. Although it is her first major engagement, Oddesa Beulah has been nominated for other fixtures and in the event she is successful she probably will be the post time favorite for the Debutante Stakes to be offered at Churchill Downs. She also is eligible to the Bashford Manor Stakes to be run at that track. Melvin Calvert, who guided her in her victory here, will be astride the Wise Counsellor filly again, and Porter Roberts and Charles Stevenson have been named for both horses in the Greentree-Manhasset-and Dixiana entries. The Hartland Purse, for three-year-olds will support the ,500 added stakes, which in the event of five starters will have a net value of ,600. Second money is 00, third 50. and fourth 00. With a continuation of spring time weather, the track will be at its best and another large crowd is expected for the next to the final day of the local season.
