DECLARE LABOR HOLIDAY SIOUX CITY Iowa Oct 19 While au ¬ thorities sought aid of the national guard to maintain order in the striketorn stock ¬ yards district after a tear gas battle with strikers last night the CIO today proclaimed a labor holiday to paralyze further the meat packing industry here With the Swift Co plant scene of last nights battle al ¬ ready closed the CIO ordered unionists In the Cudahy and Armour packing plants to quit work for today The holiday is not a strike such as that which has kept the Swift plant closed since September 29 but just a day off to demonstrate union strength CIO officials insisted insistedSigns Signs reading Holiday were posted at the gates of the Cudahy and Armour pack ¬ ing houses housesApproximately Approximately 1500 were idle including 600 in the Swift plant and 900 affected by the holiday Swift Armour and Cudahy are the only big packing plants here Several small locallyowned plants were not affected
