NAME DOWNS OFFICIALS Usual Capable Staff to Watch Over Sport at Louisville Col Matt J Winn Announces Substi ¬ tution of Handicappers Contest for the Daily Double LOUISVILLE Ky Oct 27 Col Matt J Winn president of Churchill DownsLatonia Inc announced today the officials who would handle the coming sevenday meeting which starts here Saturday Many of the officials known throughout the racing world who have been named on the roster have been connected with Churchill Downs for years Two new officials have been ap ¬ pointed for the fall season Cliff Hufnagel up and coming Kentuckian who moves up from the jockey room will replace Harry Lindenbcrger as clerk of the scales while Clifford Sanford prominent midwestern of ¬ ficial has been added to the official family and will act as patrol judge judgeOthers Others named by Colonel Winn who has gained much fame through his staging the celebrated Kentucky Derby each year are Charles F Price who will act as presiding steward C Bruce Head and William H Shelley will be in the stand as Prices asso ¬ ciates In addition to acting as one of the stewards Shelley Is also racing secretary a position he has held for many years The placing judges are Harry L Lindenberger James T Clark and Larry Bogenschutz As usual William Hamilton will do the starting while the capable A E Wiedekamp will have charge of the mutuel department departmentOPENING OPENING DAY PROGRAM PROGRAMAfter After selecting his officials Colonel Winn went to work on the opening day program which will consist of eight races Winn an ¬ nounced today that post time for the first race on both Saturdays of the meeting would be 1 oclock while during the week starting time for the first race would be 130 when only seven races would be offered offeredThere There will not be a Daily Double at the fall meeting However Winn announced this morning there would be a Program Contest for amateur handicappers such as was held at the recent Latonia meeting The rules governing the contest would be the same as the association had in use at the Covington track trackTrack Track superintendent Tom Young has the course in excellent condition and it should be at its best for the opening should the present good weather prevail for the next two days Young is preparing to take care of the large shipment of horses due to come here Saturday and Sunday from Chicago and River Downs Cliff Burke assistant to Young had a crew of men at work all day Thursday bedding down stalls to take care of 200 horses which will be housed at Churchill Downs
