HONORS TO BILL FARNSWORTH Registers in Initial Appearance in Mrs G 0 Winfreys Silks Annie Relgh Length Behind Victor in Empire EmpireCity City Event Half Time Proves ProvesBitter Bitter Disappointment NEW YORK N Y Oct 27 Bill Farns worth the sprinting son of Crack Brigade and Princess Nora was brought back to the races after a considerable rest to win the Yellow Hand Handicap at the Empire City course This dash of five and threequar ¬ ters furlongs marked the first appearance of the gelding since the latter part of August and he was a keen horse winning in going away fashion by a length Now running under the silks of Mrs George C Winfrey he won going away from Mrs John Hertz Annie Reign and A H Watermans Miyako MiyakoIn In this sprint feature Bill Farnsworth was making his first appearance under the silks of Mrs Winfrey he having been purchased since the death of Mrs Marian Cassidy his former owner ownerWith With little delay at the post the start was a good one and Miyako was particularly alert leaving her stall to step into the lead She was soon joined by Annie Reigh and the pair went into a daylight lead before the field with the daughter of Reigh Count running along on the rail railEVENLY EVENLY MATCHED MATCHEDThere There was little to choose between the pair of them as they showed the way but Annie Reigh was leading as they headed from the backstretch At that stage Half Time was in third place and Bill Farnsworth raced at his heels Two importations from the Argentine which were making a first appearance in this event were well back with Hijo Manso one of them a distant last lastAnnie Annie Reigh and Miyako were still bat ¬ tling along in front a furlong from the finish but by that time Bierman had called on Bill Farnsworth for his best and he was charging along on the outside outsideAnnie Annie Reigh outgamed Miyako to beat her a neck for the place while Half Time the favorite after running a dull race was four lengths back of the fillies filliesW W H Gallaghers Kate Smith was a sur ¬ prise winner over the juvenile platers that raced in the mile and seventy yards of the fifth race The daughter of Black Servant had never before shown an ability to race any such distance but after forcing all the pace she outgamed Mrs C C Hot ards City Judge and Z L Raymonds Jean C CLearner Learner was the one to show the way in the early racing but Kate Smith followed him and eventually ran him down Then City Judge came into the contention when the stretch was reached and for an instant showed in front but the filly proved the gamer under a drive to be winner by half a length lengthAUDLEY AUDLEY GIRL SURPRISE SURPRISEClarence Clarence Buxtons Audley Girl which only left the maiden class recently was a surprise winner of the mile and seventy yards at the end of the card She also gave Barba a double for he had the mount It was likewise a Buxton double for he had saddled Kate Smith for her score scoreW W F Morgans Majority Vote was a lucky winner of the opening five and threequar ¬ ters furlong dash for plater juveniles She was the favorite of the field but it was only because of beating the others away that she won by a narrow margin Kingoo from the Good Time Stable which was only beaten a head and David Butlers In Range which finished a close third were both off badly and both would have caught the filly in a few more strides Longden made every use of his good fortune at the break when he sent Majority Vote into a long early lead and she never was headed headedJohnny Johnny Longden made his riding score two in a row and there was another favorite score when Mrs M Breiners Charming Herod earned a close decision over a field of maidens Virginia Allens Count Cloporte raced to the place with Miss Mona Manyas Eboniste taking third from Mary Schulz SchulzQuasimodo Quasimodo claimed from B F Whitaker the last previous time he went to the post was winner for A Schwartz in the third a dash of five and threequarters furlongs The son of Leonardo II had been taken for 2000 and he was valued at 2500 for this running Ocean Roll claimed in his last previous race by Mrs Ethel D Jacobs for 1500 raced to the place and third went to Mrs C E Coates Wha Hae the favorite and also a recent claim
