FLEMING ARRESTED 200000 IN JEWELS RECOVERED NEW YORK N Y Oct 27 Suffering the dual pangs of conscience and a man sized hangover George Fleming and the 200000 worth of jewels he stole from Mrs Edward N Townsend Jr his socially regis ¬ tered employer were in custody of police to3ay Fleming blamed alimony for his troubles The Flemings are separated and Fleming recently was ordered to pay his estranged spouse 50 per cent of his earnings Sad and bitter he took to the cup that cheers Mrs Townsend didnt know about his state of mind when she entrusted her jewel case and its valuable contents to him Tuesday afternoon Instead of delivering them to Mrs Townsends hotel he went in a fairly straight line to a pawnshop where he got 75 for a 2000 ring Then he rounded up a few pals and set about throwing a party The first thing he knew he had sobered up and was wondering what to do next He went to the room of a friend but there was a policeman waiting there for him He didnt know it at the moment but there was a policeman waiting in the room of each of his friends on the chance that he might show up Fleming readily admitted his identity and pulled the remainder of the missing jewels out of his inside coat pocket His first thought was of his wife If I have to give her half of what I earn from now on it will come to exactly nothing said Fleming He seemed to be almost happy about it
