RIVER DOWNS CLOSING DAY Indian Summer Weather Responsible for Exceptionally Big Crowd LightlyRegarded Imperial Sir Finishes a aHead Head in Front of Franks Boy in inthe the Fifth Race CINCINNATI Ohio Oct 29 Before one of the largest crowds ever to grace the grounds of the River Downs race track and with ideal weather conditions prevailing for the sport the final days program of the 1938 Ohio racing season was presented Saturday afternoon afternoonThe The weather man dealt kindly with the days conditions and it is probable that the Indian summerlike atmosphere was respon ¬ sible for bringing out such a large gather ¬ ing Long before the horses went postward for the opening race of the afternoon the grandstand enclosure and the clubhouse were filled to near capacity capacityThe The final days program of events made up of eight races provided all that could be expected in the way of thrilling finishes and hardfought contests And although in the first few races second choices and neglected entrants took the measure of the favorites the publics choices came in for their share of winning efforts during the afternoon afternoonMcCOY McCOY ON WINNER WINNERThe The fifth race cofeature and handicap for twoyearolds brought forth five of the best youngsters on the grounds and at the end of the six furlongs the lightly regarded Imperial Sir from the stable of John N An hut was a head before Franks Boy which held on to the front at the outset but tired perceptibly in the closing stages Third went to Good Star some two lengths farther back Wage Earner and Sherry B com ¬ pleted the field fieldImperial Imperial Sir under a sterling ride by the veteran rider Jimmy McCoy was held in re ¬ straint during the opening run while Franks Boy showed the way to the others After the field had traversed threeeighths of a i mile McCoy shook up Imperial Sir and the I juvenile responded well to charge fast through the stretch and reach the finish a winner winnerNight Night Editor fouryearold son of Stars and Bars which races for I S Shafer ran his string of consecutive victories at the I local course to three and accounted for his I the Cuvier Press Handicap feature offer ¬ ing of the afternoon program The programThe Shafer sprinter came to the finish some three lengths before the Rosedale Stables Lake View which in turn was i Blues coupled with Lake View as the Rose dale entry Young Ebony and Genuines Life the only other starters finished in the named order orderBIANLY BIANLY SCORES VICTORY VICTORYManly Manly gained a hardearned decision in the second race when the fiveyearold son of Fine Manners which came from far back got up in the last stages to take a head de ¬ cision over Nervous Lady the favorite Bon ¬ nie Cain was third another length farther back backA A thrilling finish came with the running of the fourth race when My Colin emerged the winner by a nose decision over Tarpon The latter held a halflength margin over Mandas Baby which was third Tarpon Marcabala and My Colin raced heads apart through the stretch run with C E Deahls My Colin getting up in the last stride to subdue Tarpon and take a hardearned decision i
