I I REGULARS AT LATONIA Find Refreshing Breezes of Tuesday Relief From Oppressive Heat Center Especial Attention on Filly Juveniles in Hillside Farm Purse Feature of EightRace Program LATONIA Ky July 11 With a refresh ¬ ing breeze wafting in from the hills sur ¬ rounding picturesque Latonia and furnishing pleasant relief from the oppressive heat of the past week twilight racing entered its second week here with a good sized gather ¬ ing of racing enthusiasts in attendance While the attendance did not compare with that of Charity Day held yesterday the dyedinthewool racegoers were on hand to sportI view the sport Juvenile fillies were the center of attrac ¬ tion on this afternoons eightrace program seven flashy lassies engaging in the Hillside Farm Purse a sprint at five furlongs which occupied fifth position on the card and was unquestionably the outstanding event of the day dayJ J W Parrishs chestnut filly Whim Wham which although she has accounted for only one victory in a dozen starts has demonstrated enough against youngsters of stakes caliber to warrant her being estab lished a pronounced favorite in the dash Only once during her career has the home ¬ bred daughter of Percentage Moody Mary finished farther back than fourth place and that occurred in the fillys initial start startSECOND SECOND TO BETTY SWEEP SWEEPIn In her only start here this season Whim Wham finished second to Betty Sweep Clyde Van Dusens speedy miss which re ¬ cently defeated the best opposition that could be mustered for the cherished Cin ¬ cinnati Trophy Another member of the Van Dusen stable ranked as the chief op ¬ position as Pollychilla carried the hopes of the former jockey who has built an en Continued on thirtyfirst page REGULARS AT LATONIA Continued from first page viable reputation as a developer of twoyear olds oldsWhile While Whim Wham and Pollychilla were accorded the bulk of support there were three of the seven participants of unknown quality insofar as actual competition was concerned concernedThe The Brown Hotel Stables Comely Maid Dixie McKinleys Miss Queen and Mrs C R Valentines Charlotte Dear displayed their wares under colors for the first time this afternoon afternoonThe The remaining seven events were given over to members of the plater ranks five of these contests bringing out sprinters to match strides However the Marathoners were afforded an opportunity to cavort in the Boone County Claiming event which was decided over the mile and a quarter route Six formed the field for this the sixth race of the day dayTODAYS TODAYS CARD ATTRACTIVE ATTRACTIVETomorrows Tomorrows midweek presentation looms up as one of the most attractive week day cards arranged thus far this season three allowance races sharing the headline honors A wide variance promises to provide some excellent competition in the Friedberg Farm Purse designed for twoyearolds and at five furlongs while the Rose Hill Purse ex ¬ clusively for three and fouryearolds is a sixfurlong dash The last of the triple fea ¬ tured program is the Price Hill Purse a con ¬ test at a mile and seventy yards yardsThe The five other races rounding out the pro ¬ gram are well filled and bring together racers which have shown to advantage here this season therefore assuring spirited duels in the lower grades as well as the features featuresWith With a capacity field of maiden three and fouryearolds competing in the six furlongs opener on the card Frank P Letelliers Kenton Bar came through with a surprise score to graduate from the ranks of non winners and rewarded with odds of 6480 for 2 straight The chestnut gelding led virtually throughout and held a neck advan ¬ tage over the wellsupported Alldena at the end while Twilight Time was in third place Ridden by jockey J W Frye Kenton Bar lost no time assuming the lead opening up a margin of a length and onehalf in the first quarter and maintaining it until the last sixteenth where Alldena made her chal ¬ lenge lengeForm Form players received their second con ¬ secutive jolt in the second contest when the best that the oddson Jack W was able to do was land in third place behind Night Mist and Miss Wise Carrying the colors of Mrs E B Shipp Night Mist which was making her second start in the interests of her present owner came from behind with a rush in the stretch to gain a halflength decision in the threequarters dash return ¬ ing a dividend of 1220 for 2
