QUENEMO MAKES GOOD Woolford Farm Youngster Favorite in Berwyn Purse Futurity Is Next Objective of Insco InscoColt Colt Mars Man and Star StarStruck Struck Earn Brackets ARLINGTON HEIGHTS 111 July 11 The Woolford Farms Quenemo one of the most pronounced favorites of the meeting vindicated the publics faith by racing to victory in the Berwyn Purse which served as the feature of todays program at Arling ¬ ton Park Quenemo winner of his only other engagement at Arlington Park is an eligible for the Arlington Futurity for which he now will be pointed The Futurity is to be run on July 29 29Second I Second to complete the five and a half I furlongs of todays feature was Howard Wells Mi Jock as Valdina Farms Valdina Minx ran third and Tonganoxie fourth Quenemos time for the distance was 106 registered on a fast track trackQuenemo Quenemo was slow to break but he was not long getting within striking distance of the leaders He got into fourth place ap ¬ proaching the turn was second to the pacemaking Mi Jock near the home stretch j and then about a furlong out took the lead I himself Mi Jock battled on gamely after I I being headed and the Woolford colt was able to make his winning margin no more than a length lengthGETS GETS SLOW START STARTValdina Valdina Minx was another to begin slowly and it was not until she had covered almost half the distance that she could improve her position When straightened up for the run to the wire she made up some ground but still was two and a half lengths behind the runnerup at the end Tonganoxie well up throughout was a head farther back backSickle Sickle Simon had some early speed but was far back at the end as were Master Key and Hope Call the only other contes ¬ tants The play on the Woolford entry was so heavy that a minus pool developed for the show showPleasant Pleasant weather again prevailed for todays racing and a goodsized Tuesday crowd was on hand handFRENCHBRED FRENCHBRED WINS WINSThe The first race resulted in a popular vic ¬ tory for Mrs C C Winters French Bread which turned back eleven other sprinting platers over the six furlongs of the first race She was ridden by jockey Longden who sent her across the line of finish in front by a length and a half Tomye was second and Charmed One third French Bread among the leaders from the start assumed command going around the turn and then opening daylight on her nearest rival held her advantage to the end Tomye and Charmed One also were prominent from the beginning with the former finally get ¬ ting the place a neck before Charmed One OneThe The Calumet Farm provided the winner of the second race in Star Chance a juve ¬ nile son of Chance Play and Star Weed which was making the first start of his Remainder on thirt3first page QUENEMO MAKES GOOD Continued from first page career This youngster rattled off the five and a half furlongs in 105 and came across the line of finish by a little more than a length Second honors went to Tn scolad with the favorite Andy K running third The latter might have won the race but he ran out badly in the stretch and his rider could not do him justice Star Chance handled by Irving Anderson followed Kay teekels pace to the stretch and then when the latter had enough the Calumet young ¬ ster took the lead and held it to the end Valtite raced in third place to the final eighth and then dropped out of the picture pictureMAIDEN MAIDEN RACE RACEThe The third race contested at a mile saw the Lexbrook Stables Mars Man a three yearold graduate from the maiden ranks This son of Mars came from behind in the final quarter to win by a length as Induce ran second and Fair Haste third Trip By had the most early speed and she showed the way for a little more than threequar ¬ ters but that was as far as she would go and by the time she reached the finish she was far back in the ruck When Trip By began to drop back Induce enjoyed a brief lead only to lose out a little later to Mars Man which finished gamely under the guid ¬ ance of apprentice Edward Elam Barker the favorite broke slowly and never did reach a contending position while Viragin which also was well supported gave way after showing speed for a half mile mileThe The colors of Mrs Winters were seen in front again in the fourth race in which Star Struck ridden by Paul Ryan scored a lucky victory Bucket Head a victory for whom would have given the Lexbrook Stables and jockey Longden a double appeared to have the race won when he raced Dolly Whisk into defeat in the stretch but then he ducked over to the rail and was bearing in so badly that Longden almost had to pull him up With Longden trying to straighten out the Lexbrook colt Star Struck continued on steadily to emerge victorious by a half length Bucket Head which was the favo ¬ rite in the field of twelve wound up second with Gridiron third Dolly Whisk which set the pace was next
