DECRY LA GUARDIAS STAND WASHINGTON D C July 11 Mayor La Guardia of New York today was branded by the U S treasury as a champion of en ¬ trenched special interest because of his op ¬ position to removal of tax exemption on Federal state and local securities Under ¬ secretary of the Treasury John W Hanes testifying before the House Ways and Means committee struck back at La Guardias ac ¬ cusation that the treasurys arguments for removal of tax exemption were wild and cockeyed The mayor is fighting the multi ¬ plication table Hanes asserted Unfortu ¬ nately his faulty arithmetic has placed him in the uncomfortable position of acting as the champion of an entrenched special inter ¬ est which is profiting from an injustice to the great mass of citizens
