AMERICANS BEAT NATIONAL ALLSTARS 3 TO 1 NEW YORK N Y July 11 The Ameri ¬ can AllStars defeated the National All Stars by a score of 3 to 1 at the Yankee Stadium before a crowd of 62892 who paid over 80000 to see the chosen representa ¬ tives of the American League win their fifth victory out of seven played against the best of the National League Tommy Bridges of Detroit was the winning pitcher and Bill Lee of the Chicago Cubs the loser though such as Ruffing of the Yankees Bob Fel ¬ ler of the Cleveland Indians Derringer of the Cincinnati Reds and Fette of the Bos ¬ ton Bees also participated The American League stars made six hits including a homer by Joe DiMaggio The Nationals gathered seven hits two by Lombardi of the Reds but failed to bunch them with men on bases Joe Gordon of the Yankees was the fielding star of the game
