DIVERSIFIED PROGRAM Latonia Presents an Interesting Card for Wednesdays Twilight Racing Three of the Eight Races Occupy OccupyFeature Feature Placing and Were Reason Reasonfor for the Increased Attendance LATONIA Ky July 12 One of the most j diversified programs of the current Latonia meeting was presented here this afternoon with ideal weather and track conditions pre ¬ vailing for the staging of the eight races which was productive of some thrilling j sport sportAlthough Although devoid of a stakes or handicap feature what was lacking on this score was more than overshadowed by the quantity of attractive races No less than three events shared the spotlight being offered as the fourth fifth and sixth races respectively and contested for at various distances distancesOf Of the eight races offered only half that number found the type of performers of the claiming division mingling as three allow ¬ ance tests and a special weights affair for maiden twoyearolds constituted the other i half of the fare thus providing one of the strongest weekday attractions assembled since the inauguration of the meeting two weeks ago agoEACH EACH OF SAME QUALITY QUALITYThere There was little to choose from to single out for top billing from the Friedberg Farm Puise which was designed exclusively for twoyearolds at the dash distance of five furlongs and holding fourth place on the card the six furlongs Rose Hill Purse en ¬ gaging threeyearolds and older which was the fifth and the Price Hill Purse for three yearolds and older over the mile and sev ¬ enty yards route routeAll All three of these contests were made up of well balanced fields and were largely in ¬ 1 strumental in the sharp upturn in attend ¬ ance over that of yesterday The first of the triple headliners found seven select juveniles forming the field with J W Parrishs Cen ¬ tuple which was making his first start in more than a month and W E Smiths City Talk sharing the favoritism honors over Haste On Lady Lucille Wiss Quiz Bobs Squad BoyIn and City Boy In the subsequent attraction the Rose Hill Clyde Van Dusen who has distin Continued on thirtyfifth page DIVERSIFIED PROGRAM Continued from first page guished himself nobly here this season fur ¬ nished the favorite in Torch Betty Never having started as a juvenile the consistent daughter of Torchilla and Betty Derr has given evidence of being of better than ordi ¬ nary caliber in her three performances this year Eight others performed in this affair completing the day for the sprinters sprintersAnother Another Van Dusentrained racer attracted the bulk of support in the Price Hill when Erin Torch was established the choice over his seven opponents to make it two tri ¬ umphs in succession In his initial outing of the year which came a week ago Erin Torch romped to a hollow six lengths score and on the strength of that showing the six yearold gelding held on edge over Tyr Dou ¬ ble R M Ambassador Wooden Indian Don Moss Taken and Whistling Dick DickClaiming Claiming races will dominate tomorrows presentation each of the eight being given over to racers of the lower classification bracket the best of which is the Verona Purse for fillies and mares over the six fur ¬ longs route Seevn are destined to compete on this occasion and include Upslala Stairs Apropos Mary Allie Kates Kitten Doplay and HighlandUnder Alice Highland Under a severe drive from beginning to end J R Nevilles Romaineled throughout to capture major honors in the opening race a sixfurlong dash and in so doing created a mild surprise The bay filly outgamed Kentucky Jane to score by a neck while the favorite Gen Greenock encountered inter ¬ ference in the stretch and had to be content with third honors The locallyowned Ro maine darted into the lead soon after the field was sent on its way and although the daughter of Pompey was repeatedly chal ¬ lenged she proved equal to the task of ward ¬ ing off her rivals rivalsIn In this contest Blind Poet made his first appearance of the season and caused many a gasp because of his massive structure However the horse which is reputed to be the largest engaged in racing on the Ameri ¬ can turf and which scored the first victory of his career at North Randall before being shipped here trailed home in last place The lumbering chestnut gelding could not cope with the speed of his rivals
