Reigh Me Captures Detroit Opener Under Vigorous Ride bv tlinchum Favored Absconder Gets Up for Thrilling Nose Score in Second Event EventDETROIT DETROIT Mich May 26 Reigh Me representative of G W Hard and well rid ¬ den by Jack Flinchum scored a driving victory in the first race at the Detroit Fair Grounds today The well conformed daugh ¬ ter of Reigh Count and Watch Me came to the close of the sixfurlong sprint a length and a half in advance of C Whitney Moores Margee Noble and the latter was a nose be ¬ fore the favored C A ONeils Hi Winnie which downed the nine other maiden three yearolds which met for minor honors honorsHi Hi Winnie had the highest speed away from the stalls and quickly opened up a commanding lead in the run down the back stretch Dotso was in closest pursuit and Miss Westie was a well placed third This order was maintained until reaching the upper turn where Hi Winnie increased her margin to two lengths and Miss Westie moved up second Reigh Me which had been working her way up in steady fashion ap ¬ peared drngerous at the final turn and when taken to the outside for the drive came stoutly under Flinchums vigorous handling Hi Winnie held on until the final eighth and was momentarily displaced by Miss Westie when the former gave way wayReigh Reigh Me then continued to gain on the leaders and a sixteenth from the finish forged to the front and went on to win under a drive Margee Noble closed with a rush to gain second and Hi Winnie lasted for third Running time was 114 over the fast track and the winner returned a 1220 straighrpay off offCROWD CROWD OF 6000 6000The The first full nek of racing got under way at the local plant today with ideal jveather and track conditions prevailing Clear and warm weather plus a mild breeze added to the comfort of the 6000 turf devo ¬ tees who turned out to witness the eight race program The racing strip was in tip ¬ top shape and track superintendent J Oliver Brown expressed the opinion that the course was at its best since the 1941 meeting opened openedThe The Stand Pat Purse which was decided as the sixth event on the card and was de ¬ signed exclusively for threeyearolds served as the feature attraction A small but select field of sprinters met in the six furlongs dash and of the group Mrs S T Baxters Isalot a victor in his initial local effort and Smith G Bakers useful filly Meggy en ¬ joyed strong support C Whitney Moores All True T D Buhls Le Chat Rogers Drakes Paducah and the locally owned Dix iana colorbearer Big League rounded out the field fieldThe The fifth race also for threeyearolds brought out a good band of seven better thanaverage platers and served as a sup ¬ porting event to the headliner E K Thomas Fairly Fly was well backed for the six furlongs dash and Singing Heels from the stable of A L Ferguson as well as Beezley Hirschbergs Aaron Burr also had their share of backers backersTHRILLING THRILLING FINISH FINISHAbsconder Absconder from the stable of R L Stivers scored a driving nose decision over Showabal in the second race which engaged twelve colts geldings and horses at six furlongs Third honors fell to Four Rings who was good enough to garner that award by the Aianty Jmargin of a neck from Starwind Absconder was benefited by a heady rfae on the part of George King and responded to vigorous handling in the final stages to own Showabal Absconder was a strong betting ioi choice and was held at odds of 3 io i the straight wagering The Stivers geld a0d the Daily D ° Uble Which
