CAPE COD MAKES HIS COMPANY APPEAR SLOW SLOWWins Wins Haymarket Square Purse at Suffolk Downs by Seven Lengths While Negotiating Mile in 137 137BOSTON BOSTON Mass May 26 Running the fastest mile of the meeting Cape Cod from the string of the Maryland sportsman G C Greer made his company seem slow in com ¬ parison as he reached the end of the Hay market Square Purse seven lengths in front of Marshall Fields Boiled Shirt and hung up 137 for the distance Driving into third place more than a dozen lengths back of the leader Chance Yen earned that share of the 1200 purse for A J Lynch Bit OGrcen was fourth before Liberated the sole re ¬ maining member of the field The Hay market Square was a condition offering fea ¬ turing todays program at Suffolk Downs DownsCape Cape Cod was ridden by apprentice Rocco Sisto and that boy was completing a riding double started on Hicomb in the fourth Cape Cod has been nominated for both the threeyearqld Commonwealth and the Con ¬ stitution Handicap and on todays perform anqe he must be considered as one of the more formidable contenders for these 5000 added prizes prizesIn In the Haymarket Square the Bostonian colt had little or no trouble at any stage of the trip Sent into command with the start Sisto stepped him right along and when opening up several lengths on his closest rival was taken in hand Bit OGreen chased closest after Cape Cod and the favorite Boiled Shirt after racing into an open switch at the first turn was holding to third place Bit OGreen moved to within a length and onehalf of the leader at the halfmile ground and this was as menacing a threat as the Greer colt was to receive receiveGAINS GAINS FIVELENGTH LEAD LEADRounding Rounding from the back stretch Sisto let out a wrap on the leader He immediately bounded away and had a lead of five lengths before the turn into the home lane Bit OGreen gave up the chase after going six furlongs and the Field colt moved up to sec ¬ ond place There was no catching Cape Cod however Boiled Shirt was under an unavail ¬ ing drive through the stretch but never could get within hailing distance of the winner and was almost as easy a second better than five lengths separating him from Chance Yen Liberated played no serious part in the running trailing far in the rear through ¬ out outA A return to more pleasant weather saw a large and enthusiastic throng in attend ¬ ance The track had thoroughly dried out from the drenching of Saturday and was the fastest of the meeting meetingR R W Collins Lone Sentry an upset win ¬ ner last out came back to make it two in a row in the Watertown Purse placed fifth on the card also at six furlongs and exclu ¬ sively for threeyearolds Thrift Shop rac ¬ ing for J H Louchheim filled the role of runnerup and the show position went to B F Listers Gold Tower Although backed into oddson favoritism the Clock Tower colt gave his supporters some uneasiness during the early part of the race ATTEMPTS TO BEAR OUT OUTMarshall Marshall Fields Five to One was out in front racing under a snug hold for the open ¬ ing fivesixteenths and enjoying an advan ¬ tage of more than two lengths However after making the turn from the back stretch the Fieldowned filly attempted to bear out This permitted Taylor to hustle Lone Sentry up on the inside of the early pacemaker and into the lead The Collins colt once in front drew out readily and midway in the stretch was enjoying a comfortable lead During the final furlong Thrift Shop who had been prominent all the way closed willingly and reduced the leaders advantage considerably although never a serious threat threatGold Gold Tower came from last place to gain his placing Five to One taken in hand when attempting to bear out again loomed up stoutly nearing the stretch only to give way during the late stages of the journey The winner returned 360 for the usual 2 wager
