OMAHAS ANNUAL MEETING OPENS THIS AFTERNOON EIGHTEEN NAMED FOR INAUGURAL HANDICAP HANDICAPAkSarBen AkSarBen Officials of Opinion That ThirtyDay Session Will Be One of Best Ever Offered OfferedOMAHA OMAHA Neb May 26 AkSarBen will open what gives promise of being one of the best if not the best meetings in its rather lengthy history when the 1941 summer ses ¬ sion gets under way Tuesday afternoon Fa ¬ vorable weather conditions prevailed Monday and were predicted for opening day while track superintendent James Ronin had the racing strip in tiptop shape shapeThe The entry list for opening day is excep ¬ tionally heavy with no less than eighteen of the better grade runners being named for the Inaugural Handicap the days feature attraction Some of the most prominent owners on the turf have horses in this event Benny Creech has entered three namely BudOn Bo Fiddle and Vinum for Mrs A M Creech while Mrs Teresa Loeff of the West Coast also will be represented by a trio in Real Clear Bubbling Boy and Valdina Jean JeanOthers Others to name more than one horse for the event are John Oliver who has Fla Post and Little Abner H Nellor who has Trim Stepper and All Lizzie and Ormsby Frank who have entered Imitra and Parisian Witch 800 HORSES ON HAND HANDAbout About 800 horses and forty jockeys are on the grounds Some of the more promi ¬ nent of the older riders are Fritz Weida man K Watson W Root W Smolinski H McGahan L Whiting C Bianco and W McCadden Among the apprentices are J Caniglia A Ebberts H B Wijson J Mc Cumbei L Larson and K Whitlock WhitlockThe The Bahr starting gate will be used with Noel Chilcutt presiding and the Thomas camera will catch the finishes R Dick Leigh who served as presiding steward in man of the official staff acting as presid Cuba during the winter will be the head ing steward and racing secretary while A Heffernan and Joe Smith will be associate stewards The latter will represent the Ne ¬ braska Racing Commission John Maluvius racing secretary at Tanforan and Del Mar will be assistant racing secretary and plac ¬ ing judge while the other placing judges will be John L Watkins and Harvey Foster FosterRacing Racing will get under way each day at 2 p m vhile the Daily Double which is on the first and second races will close promptly at 145 p m mJ J J Isaacson who is manager of opera ¬ tion for AkSarBen was sanguine that the coming session would be the best in the his ¬ tory of Omaha racing He pointed to the greater interest being shown in the sport this season by horsemen and public alike alikePLANT PLANT DARK MONDAYS MONDAYSRacing Racing will be held daily except Sundays and Mondays with delegations from various Nebraska and Western Iowa communities as guests on specified days Tuesdays and Fridays will be ladies days when women will lie admitted upon payment of a 30cenl tax and service charge chargeFourteen Fourteen big handicap events will be fea tured during the 1941 season none for less han 1200 Two besides the Inauguial are scheduled for opening week one on Me ¬ morial Day which is traditionally one of the biggest days at AkSarBen AkSarBenThere There will be a daily race for Nebraska bred horses AkSarBen will pay a bonus of 25 for every Nebraska horse who wins an open race where the purse is less than 1000 If over 1000 the bonus wil be 50 Breeders too will receive 3 per cent of the first money of every purse won by a Ne ¬ braskabred entry entryOn On the eve of the 1941 meeting AkSar Ben race officials pointed to a number of progressive steps taken in the past year All jockeys and exercise boys they pointed out will be protected by insurance against death or injury on the track Grooms of winning horses will receive a 5 bonus for each winner Grandstand mutuel rooms stables and the paved parking area have all been enlarged or rearranged and the grounds beautified by additional landscaping
