Virginia Notes Tremendous interest was aroused in Vir ¬ ginia breeder ranks through the stretch run photo finish that Walter Chrysler Jr put on to obtain the North Wales property in Warrenton He association and a breeder who yearly ships to Saratoga is another who has horses in work at Burrland these days daysMacLeod MacLeod is propping six twoyearolds three by Belfonds that striking gray son of Isard IL imported to this county from France these four years ago and now stand ing at Abram S Hewitts Montana Hall near White Post Va Belfonds has his first crop of twoyearolds racing this year and MacLeods string numbers three very prom ¬ ising youngsters Other twoyearolds in the masters of Huntlands Farm string are by Ariel Stimulus and Pompey PompeyOut Out at Huntlands Farm possibly the most beautiful plant in Virginia MacLeod has eight yearlings he is heading for Sara ¬ toga These are sons and daughters of such fashionable sires as Belfonds Pilate and Milkman A striking individual in this lot is the Belfonds roan colt out of a High Time mare a halfsister to Chiquita Mia leading moneywinning twoyearold today in the re ¬ markable string of Charles Lucky Howard Another colt which will undoubtedly cause tremendous interest at the Spa this August wlen he arrives for the sales is the chestnut son of Milkman out of Question a seven eighths sister to Chance Play and Chance Shot a mare which has already proved her ¬ self in getting the stakeswinning Quel Jeu JeuMacLeods MacLeods luck has run afoul of fillies with foal arrivals numbering only two colts in the six now flourishing at Huntlands Whim daughter of Broomstick has a filly foal by Pilate The Abbots Trace mare Littany also has a Pilate filly Other fillies are the Gino daughter of Confidence by Wise Counsellor a halfsister to Mr Khay ¬ yam and Andy K and a Pilate filly Con ¬ fidence is a recent addition to Huntlands brood matron ranks She was acquired from Mrs C Oliver Iselin of New York and will be bred tg Quatre Bras II Foal colts at Huntlands are the Wrack mare Lady Modishs son by Belfonds and a son of High Velocity out of Ebony Blue a daughter of Flying Ebony EbonyA A M Chichester master of Widworthy Stud at Leesburg Va reports that five foals arrived on the farm Three are by Whizz away one by Happy Argo and one by Rock Time The Happy Argo colt which is out of Golden Billows is a full brother to Golden Voyage The Whizzaway colts are out of Morden Tody West and Olemistess and the Grand Time colt out of Rock Court CourtJohn John S Phipps who operates an ever ¬ growing breeding establishment near here which for years was solely used to raise polo ponies to mount his international polo playing son Michael once rated at ten goals is now breeding racing stock in an all out for American Blenheims This compact son of Blandford foaled in this country from the imported mare Flying Squadron has had re ¬ markable success with his progeny which have reached the tracks having had only a limited number of mares suitable for pro ¬ ducing racing stock stockMr Mr Phipps and his brother Howard Phipps who races the Wheatley Stable string flew to Middleburg this past week to visit Blenheim Farm Shelton Glascock manager has seven sons and daughters of Blenheim foal arrivals of this spring now in his care also foals by Gino Sun Briar Sun Beau and Neddie the latter produced from matron
