HORSEMEN FROM ILLINOIS DISTRICT HOLD MEETING MEETINGSeventyFive SeventyFive Sign Up as Members With New Protective Organization OrganizationCRETE CRETE 111 May 31 Seventyfive horse ¬ men attended the first meeting of the Horse ¬ mens Benevolent and Protective Association held in Illinois at Chicago Heights Friday night and signed up as members of that organization after having its objectives and bylaws explained to them by vicepresident Monte Weil of the Illinois district districtWeil Weil also explained the necessity for a horsemens organization to care for the sick disabled and destitute members of the pro ¬ fession In emphasizing the value of the Horsemens Benevolent and Protective Asso ¬ ciation he outlined the work which has been accomplished since the organization was set up on a national basis last winter in Florida FloridaIn In signing up as members the seventy five who were present at the first meeting authorized the organization to deduct the 1 per cent from winning purses called for to carry out objectives objectivesA A larger attendance is anticipated for the next meeting because those horsemen who were present Friday evening agreed to stage a membership drive driveWeil Weil also stated that he had word from the organization in the New England dis ¬ trict That group expects 100 per cent co ¬ operation from the horsemen there Reports from that point indicate that the reception at Narragansett was very good and they are new doing missionary work at Suffolk Downs
