Lady to Bud Lerner LernerThe The dam Dust Brush foaled a chestnut filly by Swing Loose on the farm of Albert Stabler Jr of Spencerville Md Swing Loose Is by Swashbuckler and the mare will be bred back to him himBruce Bruce Campbell who controls the Grover land Farm at Lutherville Md reports the mare Block Party by Morvich foaled a bay colt by Kerry Patch The mare will be bred back to Kerry Patch a Maryland minor tracks was bred J Yancey Christmas has announced that three foals were dropped at his farm at Marlboro There was a colt out of Zembla a colt out of Heraldic and a filly out of Bay Ordy All are by Duel Preston Burch has called attention to the recent winning effort of Jongleur The colt a chestnut threeyearold is a halfbrother of Firethorn which won the Jockey Gold Cup twice The Lawrence Realization The Walden The Maryland Handicap at Laurel and many other races Firethorn the joint property of Walter M Jeffords and C V Whitney is standing at the latters farm in Kentucky Jongleur is by Royal Minstrel out of Baton Rouge Pukka Heaven owned by Mrs H W Boyle West Virgina breeder has been bred to Challenger H at the Glade Valley Farm of W L Brann BrannFew Few turf fans realize the great detail which day by day must be attended to and given full consideration on a thorough ¬ bred breeding farm Actual figures on these points are seldom seen Take Holly Beach Farm for instance that vast Annapolis es ¬ tablishment of Labrot Company The farm operations for this year includes 100 acres of alfalfa 240 acres of clover and timothy for hay 425 acres of pasture 150 acres of corn 110 acres of wheat and about thirty acres of flower gardens and lawn Nor on a farm like this are the horses the only animals to be cared for For at Holly Beach they have seventyfive head of Pure Bred Jersey cattle thirtyfive Pure Bred Angus 100 head of hogs and stable room for about 100 head of horses Holly Beach is operated mostly by ma ¬ chinery of the latest order which is used to save labor still it is necessary to employ eight men to operate the machinery On a farm of this size they use an average of 200 tons of lime per year and 2500 tons of manure This manure is placed in the barnyard with the steers that are being crain fed and fattened for the market marketLabrot Labrot Company has been slowly bringing its brood mare group down to about fifteen in number and as a result there are just sixteen on the farm today Included in this lot are four daughters of Sir Greysteel the stallion which the late Sylvester Labrot purchased in England and is now buried on the farm Among the mares still retained are Belittin by Black Toney Dancing Lady by Royal Minstrel Emer ¬ gency Aid by Man o War Evening Light by Jack High Good and Brave by Gallant Fox Peeping Star by Sir sisters Tred Avon was one of the best race mares of this genera ¬ tion and has to her credit a victory over Equipoise EquipoiseTwo Two stallions are now standing at Holly Beach namely Quatre Bras IL a fullbroth ¬ er to Bull Dog and Sir Gallahad HL and Kantar whose younster recently was judged the best yearling in Maryland by Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons Quatre Bras H is owned by Sylvester Labrot and Walter Chrysler Jr in partnership Until this year yearlings from Holly Beach Farm have been sold at Saratoga There are but five however and they will be retained for the racing string of Sylvester Labrot Jr who besides being one of the syndicate that imported Bahiam to this country last fall is now one of the group who will reopen the Fair Grounds in New Orleans this Winter The five yearlings are Bay colt by Jacopo Brandy Fizz bay filly by Jacopo Dancing Lady bay colt by Kan tar Monel gray filly by Kantar Tred Avon and a chestnut filly by Pilate Toy time Colonel J F Wall widelyknown breeding authority and steward at Charles Town is eager to advance the breeding of thorough ¬ breds in West Virginia so that next year a race for West Virginia and Virginiabreds may be staged daily J Nelson Bond has two weanling colts on his farm in Long Green Valley Md They were purchased from the estate of the late Elizabeth Bosley One is by Bud Lerner Peppery and the other by High Strung Chi
