JAMES E DOOLEY The president of the Narragansett Racing Association has announced the stake schedule for the autumn meeting at the Pawtucket track NARRAGANSETT PARK AUTUMN STAKE SCHEDULE CARDN1NEADDEDMONEY FIXTURES FOR MEETING MEETINGPawtucket Pawtucket Handicap Mary Dyer and Jeanne DArc Revived With Three Others Boosted in Value ValuePAWTUCKET PAWTUCKET R L June 9 Nine impor ¬ tant stakes specifically designed to high ¬ light the autumn meeting at Narragansett Park which gets under way August 11 and continues through September 27 will be posted on Gansetts schedule as permanent fixtures according to an announcement made this morning by judge James E Dooley DooleyFor For several years we have experimented with our stake schedule said judge Dooley in an effort to establish a list that will best conform with the horsemens require ¬ ments I believe the five stakes run at our spring meeting and the nine we now offer for decision at the autumn session provide a schedule thoroughly well suited to the type of stables which race regularly in this part of the country The fourteen stakes now established may be regarded as regular fix ¬ tures with the order of running following as closely as possible the dates set this sea ¬ son Our course seems now definitely charted to run two meetings annually and It may be reasonably expected that our ac ¬ tual racing dates will vary but little Look ¬ ing ahead I see only one possible variation in our stake offerings of future years world and business conditions may affect our added values These may increase they may decrease but in any event Gansett will adhere o its pledged policy of playing ball with the horsemen and keeping induce ¬ ments to race here at the highest possible level levelCOMPLETE COMPLETE STAKE PROGRAM PROGRAMThe The nine stakes offered at the autumn meeting are as follows Pawtucket Handicap threeyearolds and upward six furlongs 5000 added August 11 11King King Philip Handicap 3yearolds and up ¬ ward one and onesixteenth miles 5000 added August 16 Jeanne dArc Stakes 2yearolds fillies six sixfurlongs furlongs 5000 added August 23 New England Oaks 3yearolds fillies one and onesixteenth miles 10000 added August 30 Old Colony Stakes 2yearolds six furlongs 10000 added September 1 Mary Dyer Handicap 3yearolds and up ¬ ward fillies and mares one and onesix ¬ teenth miles 5000 added September 6 Narragansett Special 3yearolds and up ¬ ward one and threesixteenths miles 25 000 added September 13 James C Thornton Memorial 3yearolds and upward six furlongs 5000 added Sep ¬ tember 20 20Governors Governors Handicap 3yearolds and up ¬ ward one and oneeighth miles 10000 added September 27 27Stake Stake nominations will close August 1 and blanks will be mailed to horsemen this week Minimum purses at the meeting will be 1100 1100Restored Restored to permanent standing in the stake list are the Pawtucket Handicap run only once before the Jeanne dArc dropped in 35 39 and 40 the Mary Dyer dropped in 39 and 40 Increased in added value are the New England Oaks from 5000 to 10000 the Old Colony from 7500 to 10000 and the Governors Handicap from 7500 to 10000 With the exception of the Paw ¬ tucket Handicap on opening day and the Old Colony on Labor Day all stakes will be set for decision on Saturdays Overnight handicaps and high grade allowance races 1 will provide the midweek features featuresTO TO DISTRIBUTE 490000 490000Approximately Approximately 490000 in stakes and purses will be distributed to horsemen dur ¬ ing the fortytwo days of the meeting Rac ¬ ing secretary Bob Shelley now working on I his condition books is planning a program of two races daily for 1100 purses three daily for 1200 purses two daily for 1300 purses and one daily for 1600 This sched ¬ ule with the addition of 80000 in stake money boosts the daily average distribution to 11665 one of the highest figures in the spectacular history of the track trackWith With the racing end of the business taken care of judge Dooley has instructed super ¬ intendent Jim Linnehan to proceed with the completion of the improvements program begun this spring An extensive landscaping program is now being developed and Gan ¬ sett will come up to its August 11 opening groomed to perfection That Gansett is the horsemens track is again evidenced by the avalanche of stall applications that are rolling in from the four quarters of the country The stall committee will meet to award these accommodations on July 15 and as usual the regulars will be given first consideration
