west as Hollywood Park highly regarded twoyearolds are slated for competition in June The first important juvenile stake at the Long Island course will be the Astoria June 14 exclusively for fillies and among its seventyeight nominations are some of the bestbred babes in the land Yearling prices have proven a poor barometer on which to judge racing1 capabilities and this seasons many bargains in the threeyearold and handicap division amply reflects the fact Nor because a youngster is a full brother or sister to some out ¬ standing performer does it guarantee racing success of Jhe babe about to embark on a turf career Pedigree does have its promise appeal however and whether or not they start in the Astoria some time this season fans are due to see Belair Studs Maraschino bay filly by Sir Gallahad III Marguerite thus a full sister to Gallant Fox Glen Riddle Farms Military Brush a brown filly by Man o War Brushup a full sister to War Admiral Whitney Stones Galleria a bay filly by Sir Gallahad III Anastasia Mrs Silas B Masons Dinah Did Play bay filly by Head Play Dinah Did A G Vanderbilts New Flower brown filly by Discovery Pansy Walker and C V Whitneys Mackerel a chestnut filly by Equipoise Call Girl A more beautifully bred group would be hard to find yet they are but a few of the attractive fillies named for the Astoria and other juvenile events eventsOn On Saturday June 21 twoyearold colts and geldings will show their wares In the Tremont and on June 28 the Great American will be the meeting ground of the baby hopefuls regardless of sex Belair Stud lost a valuable youngster in King Minos a Sir Gallahad III colt out of Minerva bu has a wellbred juvenile in the gray colt Trierarch by Sir Gallahad III Triumph and bought out of the yearling sales for 10100 Walter Chrysler Jr lias not named either of his Sir Gallahad III fillies for the Aqueduct juvenile events but has nominated Gallalice a brown filly by Sir Gallahad III Alice Harris and which he bought at the Spa sales for 6000 for the Polly Drummond Stakes at Delaware Park on June 28 Manhasset Stables promising Amphitheatre whicllr started at Belmont Park and for which they paid 6800 is eligible lt r the Tremont and Great American He is a brown colt by Sir Gallahad III Arena The Sir Gallahad III Kestrel colt for which Mrs E H Augustus paid 5200 has been named Trelawny and nominated for the Tremont Great American and also for the Christiana Stakes at Delaware on July 4 Millsdale Stable has named the Zacaweista colt Doctor Reder for the Aqueduct events but did not name Silver Grail the Sir Gallahad III colt for which they paid 4000 4000Reapers Reapers Blade a brown colt by Sickle Friendly Gal was the highestpriced yearling of the 1940 sales Costing 18000 he was purchased by the Brookmeade Stable ofvMrs Isabel Dodge Sloane He has not been nominated for the Tremont or Great American although Brookmeade was a liberal nominator to both events Christiana Stable paid 16000 for a chestnut colt by Hyperion Gwyniad but if the imported youngster has been named it has not yet come io our attention He has not been named for the Christiana Stakes though the stable of the same name has nominated three including Coochs Bridge W E Boeing the Californian paid 15000 for a bay colt by Pharamond II La Chica and has named the youngster Pony Express Year ¬ lings by Blenheim II will be in the limelight and especially the two which brought over 10000 Mrs E Graham Lewis named the 12500 colt out of Gotoit Blenson Millsdale Stable paid 12000 for a bay colt out of One Hour and has named it Yankee Cousin He has been nominated for the Arlington Futurity Five others by Blenheim II sold from 6100 to 3000 the 6100 youngster being a chestnut colt now the property of the Brandywine Stable and named Battle Array ArrayBull Bull Dog yearlings not only sold well in 1940 but have been liberally nom ¬ inated for 1941 juvenile events The top price was the 12000 paid by Milky Way Farm for the brown colt named Dogpatch and which has been named lor the Arlington Futurity on July 12 The second highest priced Bull Dog colt was the bay out of Felina II and for which John Hay Whitney paid 11500 Whitney named him Buster and nominated him for the Great American The third was the 10000 for the bay colt out of Fairy Eyes and named King Oberon Coldstream Stud has named this babe for the Tremont Great American Christiana andArlington Futurity Besides Dogpatch mentioned above Milky Way Farm bought many promising yearlings last season one of the group being a bay colt by Coldstream Carbina Mrs Ethel Mars paid 9200 for this handsome colt but apparently has not named him as yet Milky Way also paid 5100 for a roan filly by Head Play Planetoid and under the name of My Choice she has been nominated for the Arlington Futurity Besides Dogpatch and My Choice Milky Way has named for the Futurity Clear Drive a chestnut colt by Hard Tack Delicatessen brown colt by Sun Teddy and three others Delicatessen cost 4100 as a yearling yearlingBesides Besides those mentioned above many promising yearlings of last year have been named for important juvenile events at Aqueduct Delaware Park and Arlington Park The 20000 Arlington Futurity originally closed with 568 nominations and on the list are many of the best bred youngsters this season boasts W E Boeing has not only named Pony Express but also Enter a bay colt by Brevity Besides the good pair Sun Again and Some Chance Calumet Farm has named Bean By Bean a brown colt by Bostonian and five others In all Coldstream Stud named six among them Alba ¬ tross Blue Booties King Oberon and Garm a brown colt by Bull Dog Fire Lass and Midnight Ride a 4800 chestnut colt by The Porter Floradora Dixiana nominated six Hal Price Headley four and the Greentree Stable an attractive trio in Devil Diver a bay colt by St Germans Dabchick Shut Out a chestnut colt by Equipoise Goose Egg and Trade Last a bay colt by Welcome Gift Many other prominent stables have made liberal nominations including Cleaveland Putnam Valdina Farm Charles Howard Alfred G Vanderbilt John Hay Whitney Walmac Farm and Joseph Widener
