SILKS OF H P HEADLEY IN DOUBLE WIN AT SUFFOLK SUFFOLKPet Pet Surprises in Main Offering at East Boston Course CourseBOSTON BOSTON Mass June 10 Performers from the string of Hal Price Headley were the bright and particular stars on todays program at Suffolk Downs It was a card comprised mostly of the platers the only event lacking the claiming clause being the fourth a maiden juvenile filly offering In that twoyearold offering Spiral Pass car ¬ ried the navy blue and white silks of Head ley to their first victory In the best race of the card a mile test for threeyearolds that called for a top claiming price of 3000 scaling to a low of 2500 the silks of the master of Beaumont Farm once more were flaunted victorious this time by Pet a daughter of Pharamond II and Helens Babe This miss was forced to come from a rearward position and registered by almost a couple of lengths over A J Lynchs Chance Yen the public choice It was nip and tuck for the lesser portions of the purse Briargo from Salubria Stable and J U Grat tons Lady Lyonors coming to the end sep ¬ arated by a nose noseBonified Bonified was the one who took up the running soon drawing clear When straight ¬ ening out for the run down the far side of the track Chance Yen moved up steadily and soon pressed the pacemaker closest Meanwhile Pet was leading but one of the company Lady Lyonors LyonorsBonified Bonified remained in front for the first threequarters of a mile It was not until midway of the turn that the Headley filly began to pick up speed However when set ¬ tled into her best stride Pet went to the leaders with a rush and was in the com ¬ mand after straightening out in the stretch stretchGENERAL GENERAL CLOSING UP Chance Yen still held to the runnerup position As Bonified dropped back there came a general closing up Lady Lyonors was picking up her field steadily on the inside while Sterling Young was threading his way through the field with Briargo to gain a contending position positionCaffarella Caffarella after taking the lead with Pet kept right after the filly the rest of the way and was slowly drawing out at the close Chance Yen had given her best but began to shorten stride hearing the finish and had only a slight lead over Briargo as that fel ¬ low defeated Lady Lyonors a nose for the show award Lady Lyonors during the late stages found it impossible to gain racing room or may have given a better account of herself herselfPet Pet was overlooked in the tote and paid 20 to 1 while she completed the mile in 139 139The The high wind that prevailed mitigated against fast time although the track was fast Weather conditions were pleasant de ¬ spite the wind and the usual weekday crowd was on hand handThe The five furlongs of the fourth event for maiden juvenile fillies provided one of the most stirring finishes of the meeting ter ¬ minating in a triumph for Spiral Pass It was only in the final stride that the Phara ¬ mond II miss was able to show before Viva ¬ city from the Salubria Stable E R Brad leys firsttime starter Bums Rush a full brother to Bold and Bad was third Search ¬ light from the Manhasset Stable and Mrs R M Buccolas Strolling Easy finished in that order to complete the field fieldKACE KACE REPLETE WITH THRILLS THRILLSOne One of the better claiming fields of the afternoon met in the six furlongs of the fifth race It was a test replete with thrills Pause from the Maple Crest Farm was returned winner by a safe margin coming from last place during the running Stage Beauty after racing to the lead on the in ¬ side nearlng the stretch lasted to be second before Beach Ensemble Each of the field ° Was entesd under claiming tag f s s
