FAIRMOUNT HOST TO LARGEST CROWD OF CURRENT MEETING MEETINGTom Tom Reay Surprises Throng of 12000 In Taking Juvenile Dash DashCOLLINSVILLE COLLINSVILLE 111 June 21 The great ¬ est halfholiday crowd of the current thirty day meeting was on hand for the well bal ¬ anced card offered at Fairmount Park this afternoon by the Failmount Jockey Club Despite a temperature which was hovering around at the 100 mark at noon fans kept pouring into the Madison County plant and it was estimated there were more than 12000 fans on hrnd for the opening race The skies were partly overcast shortly before the running of the first race with a threat of rain but this apparently was no deterrent to the crowd The Emerald Handicap fea ¬ tured the card and nine of the thirteen origi ¬ nal entries named yesterday remained to contest for the 1200 purse The only with ¬ drawals were Distract and Hargram who accepted their engagements in the fifth race a claiming affair at five and a half furlongs Bid Up and the Chileanbred Juanita JuanitaM M C Keefe who raced the good filly Swift Light which broke down here two weeks ago today sprung another promising young ¬ ster on the large crowd in the fourth race when Tom Reay named for a resident of nearby East St Louis got home winner in the juvenile event The youngster a gelded son bf Islam Southern Queen came from behind in the four and a half furlongs dash to down Chick Jackson Paireve and nine others The big juvenile was away with the first flight leaving the gate and outrun dur ¬ ing the early part was taken to the outside of the leaders by Donald Batts and after passing Royal Put turning into the stretch disposed of Paireve and came with a cy ¬ clonic rush in the last sixteenth o win going away by threequarters of a length Chick Jackson was two lengths before Paireve with the latter Royal Put and Leonade fin ¬ ishing noses apart at the end endDistract Distract veteran son of Distraction equalled the track mark set by False Pride in 1928 when he accounted for the fifth race supporting the feature In scoring his vic vicContinued Continued on thirtythird page FAIRMOUNT HOST TO LARGEST CROWD OF CURRENT MEETING MEETINGContinued Continued from first page I Itory tory Distract carried 115 pounds nine more than False Pride carried when that sprinter set the record Borders Boy was second and third went to Hargram It was the sec ond time this afternoon that the Bronnen berg colors entered the winners circle Sly Kitty been having successful in the first raco of the day
