HONOR MISS WOODFORD WOODFORDThe The fiftyninth anniversary of an impor ¬ tant event in Chicago racing history will be observed at Arlington Park Thursday June 26 with the naming of the feature race for Miss Woodford sensational racing mare of two generations ago For it was on June 26 1882 at the Chicago Driving Park which was located near the present Garfield Park on the West Side that Miss Woodford then a twoyearold won the first start of her racing career Miss Woodford in all won thirtyseven races for her owners the Dwyer brothers and was the first American thor ¬ oughbred to earn 10000 Only four mares Princess Doreen Bateau Top Flight and Eposa have topped her record of 118270 When her racing days were over she was sold as a brood mare to James B Haggin and died on his California ranch in 1889
