DIAMOND STATE STAKES HAS FIVEHORSE FIELD FIELDRiding Riding Light Likely Favorite for Governors Day Feature Attraction at Delaware Park ParkSTANTON STANTON Del June 25 Not unlike nearly all early closing stakes the Diamond State Stake to be presented at Delaware Park tomorrow attracted a smal field of five threeyearolds for a run over one mile and one furlong furlongNominations Nominations for the race closed April 17 1940 with 148 entries and ninetyeight made the second payment last October Forty four remained eligible after the final pay ¬ ment a year after the nominations but out of this large number only five answered the call today It appears to be a fourcornered duel with Ingomar recently purchased by Mrs D B Miller appearing to be out ¬ matched matchedFrom From New York came Swing and Sway Itabb and Choppy Sea Riding Light and Ingomar being the only members of the field to have been on the grounds since the meet ¬ ing opened openedItabo Itabo was tested in the Kent Handicap but the off footing appeared not to be to his fancy and Max Hirsch Jr believes the King Ranch representative will give a better ac ¬ count of himself if a fast track prevails to ¬ morrow morrowExcept Except Ingomar who will carry 110 pounds and the only maiden in the race each starter will shoulder 114 pounds With two victories here to his credit one of which was over a fast track Mrs Walter M Jef ¬ fords Riding Light probably will enjoy fa ¬ voritism but Greentree Stables Swing and Sway who finished third to King Cole in the Shevlin Stakes will command much support and Wheatley Stables Choppy Sea the latest invader to reach here will be well regarded regardedTOMMY TOMMY DRISCOLLS CHARGE CHARGETommy Tommy Driscoll brought Choppy Sea from New York and will saddle him Choppy Seas last race was a second to Market Wise who finished third to Whirlaway in the Kentucky Derby and second to the Blenheim bomb ¬ shell in the Dwyer Stakes StakesSwing Swing and Sway was shipped from New York for the Kent Handicap but change in the track conditions caused his withdrawal A victory for Swing and Sway would be the third stake triumph of the current meeting for the First Lady of the Turf for her Cherry Jam annexed the Brandywine Handi ¬ cap and Tangled fractured the track rec ¬ ord in winning the Delaware Oaks OaksUntil Until he opposed Whirlaway in the Bel mont Stakes Itabo was unbeaten and in the Kent he demonstrated that he lacked mud running ability The fair sex is represented by four mem ¬ bers of the field Mrs Jeffords Mrs Whit ¬ ney Mrs Miller and Mrs Ogden Phipps who is part owner of the Wheatley Stable StableIt It will be Governors Day at the Stanton track and Governor OConor will come from Maryland to meet Governor Bacon of the Diamond State Governor OConor will fca met at the state line by a guard of honor of the Delaware state police and they will escort him to the track
