Young Sires Hold English Spotlight SpotlightProgeny Progeny of Bois Roussel Scottish Union and Blue Peterlntroduced This Year YearBy By Special Correspondent NEWMARKET England Three great race horses and young stallions Bois Rous sel 1935 Scottish Union 1935 and Blue Peter 1936 will have their first sons and daughters racing this year The rst and lastnamed horses both won tbe Derby Stakes while Blue Peter also accounted for the Two Thousand Guinea Stakes in which classic Scottish Union was runner up to Pasch a position he also filled be ¬ hind Bois Roussel in the Derby Stakes However he won his claim to greatness by a cleancut victory in the final classic the St Leger Stakes StakesBlue Blue Peter son of Fairway and Fancy Free winner of the only two classics for his sex run in 1939 was one of the best Derby winners of recent years for the classic average has not been too high in the last decade It was unfortunate that the start of the war in 1939 prevented his meeting the distinguished French colt the Prix du Jockey Club and Grand Prix de Paris winner Pharis II in the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster that year Both Blue Peter and his close relative Pharis IT were the outstanding colts in their respec ¬ tive countries that year yearBois Bois Roussel of Breeders Family FamilyThe The cross of Phalaris and Desmond in Blue Peters pedigree may suggest temper but while in training the son of Fairway was the most placid of colts When he was retired to the stud even in those uncer ¬ tain war times breeders were anxious to pay 1800 for his services A dozen or more of his progeny will be seen under silks this season in this country countryOne One finds it difficult to estimate Bois Roussel in so high a category of Derby winners as Blue Pete but there should be a future for him at the stud He is grandly bred by Natout son of Pharos out of that great winnerproducing matron Plucky Leige the dam of Sir Gallahad HI Bull Dog and so many other good horses Bois Roussel belongs to a breeders family True the Italianbred champion unde ¬ feated Nearco son of Pharos and hence a close relation on his sires side easily de ¬ feated Bois Roussel in the 1938 running of the Grand Prix de Paris but in that race the Derby Stakes winner did not have the best of luck Probably there was not so much difference between them as the result suggested
