Both attractions are star-studded. In the six-furlong Harford, a nominal Havre de Grace feature, are such as Belair Studs Apache, the top weight at 132 pounds; Calumet Farms Quien Es, imposted at 124 pounds, and also from the same establishment Pensive and Bull Weed; Mrs. Albert Sabaths Alsab, H. Guy Bedwells Sollure and others. It is doubtful that each of the above mentioned will start. But, indications are that a few of these stalwarts will go postward, and they, along with some of the prominent entertainers named for the Southern Maryland, promise to bring about a "pa- rade of stars." Brought to the Belvedere Avenue course following the decision to stage a combined meeting of this states four major tracks, the Southern Maryland is a Bowie highlight under normal conditions. This mile and a sixteenth event for three-year-olds and older boasts among probable starters Greentree Stables Four Freedoms, winner of the Widener this past winter, and the runner-up on that occasion. Calumet Farms Sun Again. The latter has been weighted at 120 pounds, while Four Freedoms is to carry 116 pounds. The high weight is Greentree s Devil Diver, imposted at 130 pounds. His appearance is doubtful, trainer John M. Gaver placing his hopes on Four Freedoms. Incidentally, another prominent nominee, but a doubtful starter, is Boone Hall Stables Princequillo. It is understood he will make his Maryland debut in the Dixie. There is every reason to presume an exceptionally fine field will march to the start. Not to be forgotten among likely contestants is Arthur J. Sacketts Tola Rose. The son of Head Play turned in a sparkling endeavor in the Bowie. From the manner in which he accomplished that success there is no doubt that the bay is fit. And, when fit. he is a hard horse to handle, regardless of the quality of the opposition. As a tune-up for Saturdays stint. Four Freedoms worked out four furlongs in :515, breezing, this morning over a slow strip. He showed to advantage in that private test. In tomorrows sixth number, for four- year-olds and older, of the grade C, category, such are to meet over six furlongs as Baby Darling, Overlin, Abbe Pierre, Black Grip, Spare Man, Layaway, Quillon, Armistice Day, Castleman, Coronal and Spin Along. The field appears more or less evenly matched. Possibly, Rupaca Farms i Layaway, scheduled to carry 119 pounds, | holds a slight edge over rivals if his last race is discounted. On that occasion over this strip he showed in a disappointing manner. Armis- tice Day was a winner at Miami and Cor-1 j onal turned in a good try as the runner-up here recently. Overlin has quite a bit of speed; Abbe Pierre can be dangerous at | times and naturally, others will also be try-1 ing to take the winners share.
