R. A. Leigh, Jr., Is Appointed Assistant Racing Secretary OMAHA, Neb., June 13.— R. A. "Rome" Leigh, Jr., whose father, R. A. Leigh, is Ak-Sar-Bens racing secretary and presiding steward, is the latest addition to Ak-Sar-Bens official family. Chairman George Brandeis of the racing committee announced Tuesday that the junior Leigh has signed as assistant racing secretary, so will be on the grounds to help out his dad. The younger Leigh has served in many official capacities at midwest racing strips. Ak-Sar-Bens jockey outlook brightened Tuesday with the arrival yesterday of Mel-vin Lewis, one of the top riders at the Phoenix, Ariz., meeting, which closed Saturday. Lewis, a veteran rider, will ride free lance here, so will be available to all owners and trainers. From Arcadia, Calif., came word that three more riders, Willie Segar, an oldtimer at Ak-Sar-Ben. A. Applebee and junior Nicholson have left the Santa Anita race track and now are en route to Omaha to accept riding engagements.
