California TRA Members Lauded for Relief Work WorkChairman Chairman of Horse Race Board Praises Efforts to Aid Horsemen HorsemenLOS LOS ANGELES Calif June 9 Chair ¬ man Loyd Wright of the California Horse Race Board today expressed his apprecia ¬ tion of the prompt action taken by South ¬ ern California tracks that are members of the TRA in initiating relief measures on behalf of horsemen who suffered damages in the Oregon flood He also complimented the management of Golden Gate Fields for its prompt emergency assistance assistanceAt At the same time Wright announced that he had requested the Turf Foundation to reexamine the situation with a view to ex ¬ tending the maximum aid within its power powerChairman Chairman Wrights statement follows followsI I want to take thiS opportunity on be ¬ half of the Racing Board to express its appreciation to member tracks of TRA in Southern California Santa Anita and Hollywood Park in initiating the relief work that TRA is rendering in the calam ¬ ity that has befallen horsemen at Portland Meadows I want also to compliment Golden Gate for sending a substantial sum of money direct for relief use useDoctor Doctor Menne chairman of the Oregon Racing Board advises me that the emer ¬ gency matters are well in hand that a survey is being made and completed and that local horses that is those from Ore ¬ gon and Washington have been returned to their respective communities and a sur ¬ vey is being made of how to accomplish the transportation of other horses to dis ¬ tant points We are advised that the TRA will assist in transporting horses that are destined to go to tracks who are members This leaves considerable work to be done and money to be raised to assist the trans ¬ porting of horses to destinations which are not members of TRA To the end that this can be done expeditiously the Racing Board has requested the Turf Foundation to reexamine the situation and to extend the necessary funds to see that the hard ¬ ships of this calamity may be lessened to the greatest extent
