Cassidy Lauds Racing In England and France FranceLikes Likes Conformation of Epsom Longchamps Chantilly Courses CoursesBELMONT BELMONT PARK Elmont L I N Yf June 9 Marshall Cassidy executive sec ¬ retary of The Jockey Club has just re ¬ turned from a flying visit to European race courses Cassidy and Lou Walger di ¬ rector of mutuels at Metropolitan tracks made a brief trip to see the Epsom Derby and the Prix de Diane at Chantilly They returned to Belmont Park full of enthu ¬ siasm for racing M England and Prance Cassidy said today that he considered the Epsom Derby the greatest test of a three yearold he had ever seen He liked the conformation of the strip at Epsom Downs and he said that any thoroughbred capable of winning that race must be a good one He admired the favorite My Babu when he saw him in the paddock before the start and said that he was a grand looking colt but Cassidy was even more impressed by the Frenchbred My Love the son of Vattelor who won the blue ribbon of the British turf for the Aga Khan and Lon Volterra Cassidy of course was rooting for Mr William Woodwards Black Tarquin in the Derby and he said that colt hand ¬ icapped by a post position at the extreme side of the field showed a good effort fin ¬ ishing some halfdozen lengths behind My Love LoveAlthough Although Cassidy and Walger did not have much time in England or France they did see the important spring classics and they returned here convinced that Longchamps and Chantilly are worthy ri ¬ vals of Belmont Park and Hialeah Cas ¬ sidy appreciated the irregular structure of the principal courses abroad believing that they offer an opportunity for an outstand ¬ ing thoroughbred to prove himself but The Jockey Club official said that these general conditions of European racing were un suited for the American public which is accustomed to a close view of the sport He walked the course at Epsom Longchamps and Chantilly and gave high praises to the condition of these turf courses Cassidy also spoke of the official conduct of racing abroad saying that he had observed a high degree of discipline and good racing man ¬ ners among the riders
