Field for Miss America Narrows Down to Eight EightSeely Seely to Renew Rivalry With Alsabs Day in Saturday Test TestWASHINGTON WASHINGTON PARK Homewood 111 June 9 The 10000 Miss America Stakes sixth of the seven addedmoney fixtures on the 1948 Lincoln Fields agenda is to have its decision here Saturday and a field of at least eight twoyearold fillies is expected to contest the fivefurlong dash Several of the more promising junior misses have been eliminated due to cough ¬ ing but fortunately three of the top con ¬ tenders still are very much in the lime ¬ light and they probably will go postward in the weekend headliner headlinerTorrence Torrence C Melroses homebred Seely a daughter of Best Seller and Night Lady who bowed to Martin Whelan by a scant margin in her last local appearance will renew her duel Saturday with Mrs Albert Sabaths Alsabs Day also a homebred sired by Alsab and from the former good race mare Seventh Day The Melrose miss lost a close decision to Alsabs Day when the pair met at the recent Churchill Downs meeting a neck sparating them at the end of a fivefurlong spin run over a muddy track trackSeely Seely graduated at Louisville the first time she went to the post coasting to an easy victoryat the direct expense of Af ton Villa Farms Bird Shot Blue Molly Miss Deductive and others of class In her next race Seely lost to Alsabs Day while Harry Bensingers Miss Sal K finished third in that event at the Downs Bird Shot and Miss Sal K are nominees for the Miss America Stakes and the former now is listed as a definite starter while the lat ters status for the Saturday attraction has not been definitely decided by trainer J P Keezek KeezekBrown Brown Hotel Stables Jetrose who ran third in the renewal of the Debutante Stakes behind Hal Price Headleys Acoma and F L Flanders Blue Note won her first time out at the New Orleans Fair Grounds Her best effort to date however was in an overnight number at Churchill Downs in which outing she soundly de ¬ feated a quick field of youngsters that in ¬ cluded John A Kinard Jrs highly re ¬ garded colt Johns Joy a fast son of Bull Dog Trainer Tom Hill had Jetrose out for an easy drill this morning the Brown Ho ¬ tel filly breezing a half mile in 49 49Mrs Mrs John Marschs No Strings a win ¬ ner at this meeting Bird Shot Augustus Nahms Trippen T R W Stolps Too Sunny and Blue Note are currently re ¬ garded as Miss America starters Blue Note wellconformed daughter of Challe don and Victorious Ann won at Keene land this spring and she was good enough to finish second to Acoma in the Debu ¬ tante The Flanders filly has not raced to expectations since her last stake effort and trainer Walter U Ridenour is of the opin ¬ ion that she will be a sharp juvenile in the Saturday headliner headlinerDr Dr Eslie Asburys Dearlea and Dielle are not expected to accept in the Miss Amer ¬ ica and Arthur B Hancocks trio Scene Yoncalla and Gay Rythm also will pass the Lincoln Fields filly stake
