Several Changes Made At Hawthorne Course CourseNew New Clubhouse Auto Entrance 100Stall Barn Are Being Built BuiltHistoric Historic Hawthorne race course is to open its gates on September 7 for a 35day meeting which will run through October 16 Patrons of the stately old West Side course will find a much improved plant when the sport gets under way for the Hawthorne 1948 season seasonRobert Robert F Carey executive director and Raymond Bennigsen general manager for Hawthorne Race Course Inc have super ¬ vised some extensive improvements at the Cicero Avenue track where turf course racing will be offered this year A grass course has been laid out and built inside the flat track and present plans calls for a generous sprinkling of turf contests dur ¬ ing the forthcoming meeting meetingIn In order to expedite traffic and add to the comfort of its patrons Hawthorne officials have made a decided change in the clubhouse entrance In place of the old entry way which was located in the center of the structure a new entrance is being constructed on the west end of the clubhouse making it easily accessible to motorists arriving by way of Laramie Ave ¬ nue The traffic tieups which formerly hampered autoists at theold entrance will be a thing of the past when work at the clubhouse is completed Of particular interest to turfmen in this area is the building of a modern 100stall barn at Hawthorne Of latest design and made up of roomy box stalls the new stable is expected to alleviate crowded con ¬ ditions on the Hawthorne backstretch Stall space at Chicago tracks is always in great demand and the addition of the new structure in the Hawthorne stabling area will take care of more horsemen wishing to campaign their thoroughbreds at the Cicero racing grounds
