JUDGES STAND 1 By Charles Hatton ODonnell on Lincolnat Washington Eternal Reward Bargain for Four Owners Citations Arlington Opportunities Relic Progresses for Spa Engagements EngagementsLtncolnatWashington LtncolnatWashington will close a successful run of 30 days this afternoon and on Monday the modish Arlington Park course opens for a meet which extends through July 31 General manager Pete ODonnell is much gratified over the public response to Lincolns cards We have been very fortunate to have good weather on all but a few days he com ¬ mented Probably the statistics will be off about five per cent compared with last years but that isnt in contrast to the trend at other meets over the country ODonnell believes that the 43000 who attended the Memorial Day sport marked a record for the Lincoln club However it has recorded crowds of some 35000 at its Lincoln Fields home before there was any such fabulous highway as that now leading to the Crete course The climax of the present meet is the traditional Lincoln Handicap of a mile and a quarter for threeyearolds and upward Eternal Reward is the handicap leader of the Lincoln season and theres no doubt he will be extensively backed in this closing day fea ¬ ture Eternal Rewarfl can have left no question of his capacity to stay the classic route when he won the American Derby two years ago at a rather heavy mutuel of S20560 By a coincidence Star Reward another of the get of Reaping Reward is con ¬ sidered one of his stouter rivals rivalsEternal Eternal Reward has been a bargain horse for each of his four owners Henry Knight sold him as a yearling to Kirby Ramsey for 3500 and the latter in turn sold him as a twoyearold to Augustus Nahm for 12000 The colt now is working on his second 100000 with a matter of about 30000 to go At Almahurst recently Knight was saying how pleased he is with Eternal Re ¬ wards halfbrother by Mahmoud I think Frank Podesta must be keeping that foal in the kitchen nights he de ¬ clares he is growing so and getting so fat Knight was in the news not long ago as a member of a group who propose a new Detroit track Of this venture he says We may know something more definite within the next tew days daysCitation Citation now is on the grounds at Arlington Park where he is to be pointed for the 60000 Arlington Classic on July 31 Possibly he will appear in the Dick Welles Stakes of 25000 added for threeyearolds afc one mile on July 21 If it matters at all to Citation the threeyearold events following the Bel mont impose some weight penalties and he has earned a share of them Last winter at Hialeah one could find turfmen who thought that Relic might cope with Citation The Circle M colt had to be fired for a pack however and was declared from the Classic as it seemed unlikely he could be quite ready We learn from Dan Midkiff that Relic now is going two miles daily under the saddle and will commence serious training in New York on July 1st with a view of being ready for Saratoga He is one of the few really accomplished colts that Citation has not beaten which may or may not be simply because they have not met Meanwhile it seems that R W Mcllvains rangy Billings who won the Peabody Memorial is the stoutest of the Middle Wests rivals for the Calumet colt coltEdward Edward S Moores Cosmic Missile is another Circle M performer who will attempt a comeback in New York this season She was shipped recently from the Lexington farm to Belmont where it is expected that she will go under saddle at the slow paces for 30 days before she is legged up sufficiently for track work We may see her under colors about Belmont in the fall if she progresses satisfactorily Midkiff estimated when asked for his opinion By the way trainer AVilliams staff considers Cos ¬ mic Missile a rather long name for a shortcoupled filly and their pet name for her is Fatty For a time it was touch and go whether she would be bred to Goya II or returned to the training stable She made the decision when she encouraged her connections to think that she may stand standTurf Turf ana Reapaway is a horse of whom you may never have heard but he may turn up as a sire of winners in future seasons He is a wellbred threeyearold son of Reaping Reward and Dustaway by Whisk Broom H at Tom Piatts his ¬ toric Brookdale He has been bred to two mares this year They are La Luau by Pennant from Windy Citys family and Maske linda by Hollister the second dam Maskette Two more Princequillo twoyearolds won the same afternoon last week and for a time he had five winners from as many starters E S Moore may be a buyer at Keeneland this summer The Italian mare Stella has been bred to Bimelech
