Old and New Features To Be Run at Monmouth MonmouthFirst First Running of Salvator Mile To Head Mondays Opening Card CardMONMOUTH MONMOUTH PARK Oceanport N J June 18 Following a hiatus of three weeks thoroughbred racing will resume in New Jersey on Monday with the opening of the Monmouth Park Jockey Clubs 42 day summer meeting at its ultramodern course Post time daily will be 230 p m mEmbarking Embarking on its third season of racing Monmouth Park will present many of the old stakes and handicaps that thrilled racegoers of almost two generations ago These include the 25000 Choice Stakes for threeyearolds 25000 Monmouth Handicap for threeyearolds and upward 10000 Sapling Stakes for twoyearolds 15000 Molly Pitcher Handicap for fillies and mares the Omnibus Lamplighter and other classics of the past and present presentIn In addition to these timehonored clas ¬ sics several new features have been added to the stakes agenda chief of which is the 10000 Salvator Mile which will head ¬ line Mondays gala openingday program Remaining as one of the associations most popular features however is the 10000 New Jersey Futurity for New Jersey foals a race that has done a lot to stimulate the breeding industry in the Garden State StateThe The Salvator of course pays tribute to the gallant thoroughbred who once ran a mile along old Monmouth Parks straight ¬ away in the world record time of 135 Salvator was the Citation of his day and president Amory Haskell general manager Edward Brennan and racing secretary John Turner Jr are perpetuating his memory with this new feature which will be renewed annually annuallyMonmouth Monmouth Park at present is housing some 1000 thoroughbreds including high ranking members of every division There will be no dearth of entrants for the asso ¬ ciations fine array of stakes and handi ¬ cap features because most of the New York tracks are within easy vanning dis ¬ tance of Monmouth Park which assures numerous invaders from the Metropolitan circuit circuitDemand Demand for stall space continues un ¬ abated and Brennan reports stabling ac ¬ commodations have been sought for close to 3000 thoroughbreds Most of the over ¬ flow will be stabled at Brookdale Farm and other nearby establishments
